April lets her eyes wander around the beautiful compound, she couldn't help but be mesmerized by the beauty.
The buildings were so massive and beautiful, she lets her eyes wander back to the entrance.
She had only seen the school gate whenever she passed the neighborhood, she ones attended a private school called Calvary Comprehensive Secondary School which was directly opposite the school. Due to lack of funds, she had to pull out since her mum couldn't afford her school fees. She never knew she was going to be one of there prestigious students so soon. They also attended Mountain of fire ministries which almost shared a fence with the prestigious school.
"Hallel Colledge" The school was clearly for the rich. They had white students from different countries blacks weren't excluded. She could remember vividly the first day her best friend Homa, got so excited because she saw a white boy. It was embarrassing. She always stared at the school with the utmost respect. She never knew or wish she could get in, because she knew the kind of family she cans brought up in. They were struggling to eat adequate meals. She couldn't even attend regular privates schools without been driven home for fees not to talk of this. But life always has something in store for everyone.
"April, let's go!" Mrs. Kuti who had just finished having a discussion with one of the security guards at the gate post, urges April who doesn't utter a word and obeys her.
"The Security guard already gave me the description." Mrs. Kuti says.
April couldn't see her facial expression cause she wasn't looking her way but she could tell her mum was smiling.
"Mum! That's the admission block, I think, " April says pointing at a building, which had "Admission Block" boldly on it. They both hasten up.
On getting into the building they walk down to the reception area. Meanwhile, a lady approach them.
"Good day, Ma! Welcome to Hallel Colledge," The young lady says meanwhile April couldn't help but smile. She loved the lady's accent.
"My daughter here was giving a scholarship to study in this school" Mrs. Kuti responds slightly intimidated by the lady.
"Wow, so this is the infamous April Kuti? The lady says with all smiles meanwhile, April couldn't help but return the smile.
"Please where is the registration office?"Mrs. Kuti asks with some ounce of pride. She was so happy her daughter was been recognized. Which mother won't be? Every mother would be so happy to see there kids doing well.
" There will be no need for that. You have no business with them, let's go over to the principals office." The lady responds.
"I'm Miss Ann, by the way," The lady introduces herself before leading them out.

The room looks tidy, Everything in place. The bunks were made of wood not iron. The beds were properly dressed. The room is painted in rich brown, and it looked extremely beautiful. The interior decoration looks magnificent. What can we say? It's a school where wealthy and influential men children attend. It isn't suppose to lacking.
The noise in the room is capable of turning someone deaf. April tries to block her ears while she walks in with someone who she guessed was the matron.
"Shut it!" The lady who looked like she was in her early fifties barks. To Aprils surprise, everyone keeps mute. She feels like disappearing with the pair of eyes that were boring holes in her body. She suddenly becomes self-conscious. Yes she was a dark-skinned girl, most persons called her beautiful which she always considered to be a lie, she always felt Wunmi her elder sister was the beauty while she was the brains. She looked tall for her age and very thin. What made her seem like she wasn't really thin was her hips and big boobs. Guys in her previous school called her "heavy heavy" which she didn't find appealing.
Still watching almost everyone stare at her, like she was some recent clothes or phone. made her so uncomfortable. The Matron voice brings her back to reality.
"This is a new student, the girl who broke the schools' record, no one should make her feel uncomfortable, she was assigned to this room," The matron says with a smile making April more uncomfortable. She couldn't take the way they were staring at her and the matron just had to introduce her in such manner.
"You are welcome," A sweet voice says meanwhile April turns to the direction it came from. The girl looked like a half-caste and her accent was killing.
"April settle in," The matron says meanwhile someone walks in catching everyone's attention.
"Kelsey, I can see you doing your job properly," The matron says to the slim beautiful girl who had a smile on her face, in a sarcastic tone.
"Mrs. Nnaji, I was at room six trying to calm them down besides Wendy and Ibinabor were assigned to the same room, " Kelsey complains.
"Order from above, their madness has to stop, they are in Ss2 now, I don't expect such immature behavior from them. Whatever has been going on in the previous classes has to be overlooked, " The matron says with a serious look on her face.
" But we all know it's impossible, " Kelsey tries to convince Mrs. Nnaji. Meanwhile, everyone including April who knew nothing about there conversation stared at them.
"Kelsey, forget that, " Mrs. Nnaji says and turns to April. "April, this is the hostel perfect Kelsey." Mrs. Nnaji introduces meanwhile April tries to smile, but seems to sense the hostility in the other girl.
"Welcome to Hallel Colledge, " Kelsey says with a smile which April tries to convince herself was geniue.
"Thank you," April responds with a smile.
"Make her comfortable, she is the girl on scholarship. The one who broke the school's record, " Mrs. Nnaji says with a smile. Meanwhile, Kelsey takes her time to check April out. She nods after she was done.
"Now, I don't want to hear another word from this room, " Mrs. Nnaji says fully ignorant of what went down. She turns to April with a smile on her face.
"Get some rest, once the principal is on sit, someone will come get you. It's Important and mandatory you get to talk to him, " Mrs. Nnaji says meanwhile, April blanks out. Her mind travels back home, she wonders how her mum and sister would take her absence. She knew the fact she was always scolded didn't mean they never loved her. She was the baby of the house. She hadn't been away from them before and she wasn't sure she could cope. After they were taken to the principal's office, by Miss Ann. They were told he wasn't on sit. She just had some moment with her mum, before she left. She could tell her mum wasn't taking it so well with the look in her eyes. She was the baby of the house. You wouldn't blame her.
The look in her mum's eyes could make her decide to her back home with her. But she needed this, This foundation was a big step to a better life. She couldn't remember everything her mum said. The only thing she couldn't forget was, April you are here to study, to get a better life, don't let anyone or anything distract or make you lose focus. One more thing, beware of boys, cause you can either choose one of them. Boys over books or books over boys. You can't have both. Her mum's voice kept ringing in her head. She could see a mouth moving but couldn't make out what the person was saying.
"What are you thinking about?" The voice asks. Meanwhile, it takes April some seconds to recover. Only to see the hostel perfect staring at her.
"I'm sorry," She mutters.
"Please, don't waste my time, that's your space," Kelsey says while pointing at an empty bunk.
"Thank you," April says now admiring the room. It was so big and could contain 20 persons, cause it had ten bunks. She was asked to occupy the down part and it made her so happy. Cause she could picture herself falling off at night.
"Make yourself comfortable, you will be giving the rules and regulations, booklet of this dorm before the end of today, " Kelsey says looking like she wasn't interested in what was going on.
"Yes, Thanks again, " April responds with a smile before making her way to sit on the bed.
"If I get any noise from this room, it won't go down well, " Kelsey says with a smile that didn't meet her eyes.
Immediately Kelsey leaves everyone resumes there normal business. April uses the opportunity to start unpacking her beverages. She knew expecting any other money from home wouldn't work till the mid-term break, and the two thousand naira note her mum gave her was properly kept in the smallest part of her boxs. She is still engrossed with what she was doing when she sees two legs. Wondering who was standing so close to her, she looks up only to see a smiling face.
"You are the girl who broke the record right?" The dark-skinned girl asks with a smile.
"Yes, I'm" April couldn't help but smile.
"I'm Science Chuku" The dark girl introduces herself.
"I'm April Kuti, " April responds with a grin.
"So, you are from?" Science asks.
"Yoruba," April responds still smiling.
"Oh, I love your name. I'm from Imo- State, " Science says.
"Nice, sound weird right? Sometimes I wonder why my dad named me April. Maybe it's his long lost crush name" April says and laughs.
"Your name is nice, I love it, " Science smiles too. "What about me bearing Science?" She asks.
"Thank you, yours is nice too. I'm serious." April responds with a grin.
"Thank you, welcome to Hallel Colledge, don't worry I will show you around. That's my bed, " Science says pointing at the bunk directly opposite Aprils.
"I will be glad, " April beams.
"Yes, and...
" I'm looking for a senior named April Kuti" a voice says from the doorpost interrupting Science. And also catching everyone's attention. A small girl who April guessed was must be a Jss1 student stood at the door post dressed in a white gown which looked neatly ironed. That was when it occurred to April that everyone was putting on white. She also noticed the juniors wore a white plain gown, while the seniors wore a white plain skirt and a long sleeve except the hostel perfect who wore a long-sleeved shirt. Maybe the Ss3 students wore long sleeves. That was the only thing that could get into her mind.
"I'm looking for Senior April Kuti, I was asked to tell her she is needed in the principal's office!" The junior girl says bringing April back to reality.
"Oh, let's go, " April says while she attempts to walk, away but halt and turns to Science who had a small smile On her face. She secretly wondered if the girl ever frowned.
"I will be back!" April says.
"Don't worry, I will wait for you. So we could go to the Cafeteria together, "Science says earning a smile from April.
" Of course, Thank you!" April says before heading out.
