Strange boss

947 Words
As I sit in the restaurant, I focus on my breathing. In and out, in and out. I try to clear my mind and focus on the words the manager said. "Everything is fine," I repeat to myself. "You're doing a good job." But no matter how hard I try, I can't shake the feeling that something is off. I feel like I'm on the edge of a cliff, about to fall into the unknown. I appreciate the manager's effort to make me feel better, but I know I have to put my feelings aside and focus on the job. This is what I was hired to do, and I need to give it my all. But as I start my work, I can't help but feel a sense of unease, as if something is about to go wrong. I try to ignore it, but it's like a shadow following me, lurking in the corners of my mind. Just when I thought the day couldn't get any stranger, the chef comes up to me and asks for help chopping vegetables. It's an odd request, given that I'm not the kitchen staff. But I don't want to make a scene, so I agree to help. I follow the chef to the kitchen, where he hands me a knife and some vegetables. I start chopping, but my mind is racing. Why is the chef asking me for help? What's going on here? Even though the restaurant is relatively quiet, I know that could change in an instant. I need to be prepared for the inevitable rush of customers, and I do my best to clear my mind and focus on the task at hand. But as I'm chopping vegetables, I keep glancing over my shoulder, as if I'm expecting something to jump out at me. I try to push the thought away, but it keeps coming back. I laugh to myself at the thought of myself as a total klutz, a disaster waiting to happen. I know I'm not perfect, but I'm determined to do my best, to be a competent and efficient employee. I focus on the task at hand, trying to stay calm and collected. But as I work, my mind keeps wandering to the strange feeling that something is amiss. As I continue to chop vegetables, I start to wonder about the customers I'll be serving. Will they be friendly and polite, or will they be demanding and rude? I know it's impossible to predict, but the thought nags at me, adding to my anxiety. I try to shake off the thought and just focus on the task at hand, but it's hard to push it out of my mind. I can't help but wonder about the tips, too. I know it's not the most important thing, but I can't help but think about how much money I'll make. It's not the only reason I'm here, but it's definitely a motivating factor. As I continue to chop vegetables, I try to put the thought of tips out of my mind and just focus on the task at hand. I feel a prickle of fear as I notice the manager watching me from the corner of my eye. I keep chopping vegetables, but I can feel his gaze on me, burning into my skin. I try to keep calm and not look at him, but it's hard to ignore the sense of being watched. I feel like a bug under a microscope, with the manager observing my every move. I do my best to act normal, to continue chopping vegetables as if I can't feel the manager's eyes on me. I try to act natural, to not let my nerves show. But inside, I feel like I'm crumbling under the pressure of his gaze. I take a deep breath and remind myself that I'm doing my job, that everything is fine. But the anxiety is still there, simmering beneath the surface. It's not the first time I've felt like someone is watching me. Over the past few weeks, I've been getting used to the sensation. At first, it was unnerving, but now it's just another part of my everyday life. I've learned to tune it out, to just focus on my tasks and ignore the feeling of being observed. But today, for some reason, it feels different. Today, it feels more intense, more oppressive. The manager turns and walks away, leaving me alone with my thoughts. I can't help but wonder what that was all about. Did I do something wrong? Did I look nervous? Was I making a mistake? My mind is racing with questions and doubts. I try to push them away, to focus on the present moment. But the anxiety lingers, coloring my thoughts and actions. I can't help but feel like my life has taken a strange turn lately. It's like a constant roller coaster, with unexpected twists and turns at every corner. I never know what to expect next, and it's exhausting. I try to focus on the present moment, on the simple task of chopping vegetables. But I can't escape the feeling that something is just... off. Something is wrong, but I can't quite put my finger on it. The whole situation feels deeply unsettling. The manager's sudden shift in behavior is hard to understand. One moment he was kind and understanding, the next he was scrutinizing me with an intense gaze. I feel unsettled and unsafe, like I'm not in control of my own life. It's like I'm a puppet on a string, and someone else is pulling the strings. I'm not sure what to do or how to react.
