“She’s really bent on separating us,” he said, fighting to keep his voice calm.
“And I was stupid for believing her,” Anna replied quickly. “I won’t let her get to me again.”
Before Anthony could say anything else, Anna’s phone buzzed beside her. She picked it up. It was a message from Jake — her mother was awake.
“What is it?” Anthony asked.
“My mom is awake,” she answered quietly.
“You should go be with her,” he said softly. She looked a little confused, so he added, “She’s your mother. She wants her daughter beside her.”
“I guess you’re right,” Anna said. She stood up slowly. “I’ll be back.”
“Of course you will,” he replied, his voice warm again. “Here is home.”
