Anna leaned into the vanity mirror, a small smile playing on her lips. She carefully dabbed concealer over the dark purple bite marks on her neck. As the marks vanished under the makeup, her grin widened, her eyes distant and bright. “What are you smiling about?” Jake’s voice cracked through the silence like a whip. Anna flinched, her shoulders tensing as the smile dropped from her face. In the reflection, she watched him walk toward her. She didn't answer; she just picked up her brush and kept blending.
