Chapter Three – The Diary

244 Words
Korede stared at Adaora, stunned. “You saw someone with Gbenga?” She looked around nervously. “Yes. I was at the back of the field. I had forgotten my sketchbook after prep. When I went to get it, I saw someone walk up to Gbenga. They argued.” “Who was it?” “I couldn’t see clearly,” she said, voice shaking. “But the person wore a school hoodie. Tall. Male. I think.” Korede’s mind spun. This wasn’t just grief talking. There was more to Gbenga’s death—and Adaora had seen something no one else did. “Why didn’t you say anything before?” he asked. “No one ever listens to me. They just say I want attention,” she said, eyes on the ground. Korede nodded slowly. “You’re telling me now. That counts.” Later that evening, Korede returned to his dorm. Everyone else was outside, but he needed space. He opened his locker carefully, checking for signs of another break-in. His notebooks were still scattered, but something caught his eye behind the shelf—a small black diary. Gbenga’s handwriting. Korede opened it, flipping through the pages. Drawings. Quotes. Then: “Code of Silence. If I die, don’t let it end with me.” Beneath it were initials: S.O., M.K., J.O. Korede’s breath caught. He recognized those initials. Samuel Okon. Miss Kemi. Jide Olawale. Gbenga knew something dangerous. And now Korede was holding the key.
