to process the information. “So, you’re trying to fix it, right?”
“Yes,” David affirmed, his heart swelling with pride at his son's understanding. “I’m going to do everything I can to fix this. I want our family to heal. I want things to go back to being happy, like they were before.”
“Can we still go camping, even if everything is complicated?” Chris asked, his voice barely above a whisper, hope flickering in his eyes.
David smiled gently, wiping away a lingering tear that had escaped his eye. “Absolutely, buddy. Camping is still on. It’ll be our time to bond, just the three of us.”
Chris's expression brightened slightly, a glimmer of excitement momentarily overshadowing the weight of their conversation. “Can we roast marshmallows?”
“Definitely,” David said, feeling a wave of relief wash over him. “We’ll make the best s’mores ever.”
“Promise?” Chris asked, his eyes wide with expectation.
“I promise,” David said, his voice resolute. “No matter what happens, you and Mom will always be my priority.”
As he walked back towards the living room, David felt a mix of dread and determination swirling within him. He had shared the truth with Chris, and though it hadn't been easy, it was a step towards mending the fractures in their family. Now, he needed to confront the aftermath with Lena and Sofia.
Entering the living room, he found both women waiting, emotions painted across their faces—Lena’s hurt mingling with strength, and Sofia’s tension wrapped in uncertainty.
“I talked to Chris,” David said, his voice steady. “He knows some of what’s going on.”
Lena’s eyes searched his, seeking clarity and truth. “And how did he take it?”
“He’s confused, but he’s resilient,” David replied, feeling the weight of the moment. “He wants us to be a family. He cares about both of us, and that’s what matters most.”
“And you?” Lena asked, crossing her arms over her chest. “What are you feeling? What’s your answer?”
“I’m committed to you, Lena,” David said, stepping forward, needing her to understand the gravity of his words. “I do love you, and I’m sorry for how I’ve hurt you. I let my confusion get the better of me, and I never intended to put you or Chris through this pain.”
“But you did,” Lena said, her voice trembling. “You broke my trust, David. How can I believe you again?”
David felt the knot of anguish tighten in his chest. “I know I broke something sacred between us, and I’m willing to do whatever it takes to rebuild that trust. I want to be the husband you deserve.”
“And what about Sofia?” Lena pressed, her eyes narrowing. “What about the love you shared?”
“There was a connection,” David admitted cautiously, glancing at Sofia. “But I need to make it clear that you and Chris are my priority. I want to make this right.”
Sofia stepped forward, the urgency in her voice breaking the tension. “Lena, I never wanted this to be a competition. I had feelings for David, but I understand that he has a family to protect. I can step back if that’s what’s best for you both.”
“Don’t say that,” David interjected, a hint of desperation in his tone. “I care about you, Sofia, but it has to start with healing my family first. I’m willing to fight for Lena and Chris. I need to stabilize my home.”
Lena looked back and forth between the two, torn between anger and understanding. “And what do you want, David? Do you want to fix this for your son? Or are you trying to convince yourself you can still have both?”
David felt his heart pound. “It’s not about wanting both. It’s about realizing that I need to own up to my mistakes and fix what I’ve broken. I need to start with your love, Lena. But that doesn’t mean I won’t support you and Sofia too—just not in the same way.”
“Time will tell,” Lena said softly, her voice conflicted. “You need to prove to me that you can make this right. I want to believe in us again, but it has to be built on honesty moving forward—no more lies. Can you do that?”
“I will, I swear,” David promised, his heart racing. “I’ll do whatever it takes to make this right, for you and for Chris.”
“So, what happens next?” Sofia asked, urgency flashing in her eyes.
“I think,” David hesitated, glancing at Lena who seemed to be bracing herself. “I think we need to set boundaries. I’ll focus on repairing my relationship with Lena and rebuilding our family.
