Aftermath and Reflection
The sun hung in the sky, filtering through the trees as Lena stepped out of her car. She took a moment to gather her thoughts, standing outside David’s apartment, her heart racing. The time had come to face the man she had shared so much with—the man who had broken their family but who was also their children's father.
Taking a deep breath, Lena approached the door and knocked hesitantly. When David opened it, the surprise in his eyes was quickly replaced by a shadow of guilt.
“Lena,” he said, stepping aside to let her in. His voice was low, laced with regret.
“Hey.” Lena felt an array of emotions bubbling beneath the surface but pushed them down, focusing on the task at hand. “I wanted to talk.”
“Yeah, I figured we needed to,” David replied, leading her into
