Chapter 10 Part 1: Sign

Guillen and Chloe just got home from school. The two immediately changed clothes when they arrived home. It was a usual tiring day, so Guillen went to sleep early. Chloe went out to visit Zeal and talk about their plans.

She arrived at the mansion but there was no one there. She tried to look for Zeal in every part of the mansion, but he was nowhere to be found.

Then she remembered the date that day. It was the day when her mother died of old age. He made it a day where he commemorated all of his family and friends that passed away as well.

Every time that date came up, he would always go out. He would go to the cemetery where he made tombstones for his loved ones.

Chloe arrived at the cemetery and there was Zeal. He was wearing a suit, his hands in his pocket, as he looked down at the tombstone of her mother. His eyes looked lonelier than usual.

Chloe silently walked up to him. She knows that after a hundred years, the pain that he felt when he lost everyone never changed, and each year, that date reminds him of that.

Chloe lit a candle on the tombstone and stood beside Zeal without saying a word. She wanted him not to feel alone, even just for that moment.

They both stood there quietly.

"For a hundred years.. now I just realized." Zeal suddenly spoke.

"Realize what?" Chloe asked.

"My people used to say that I wasn't cursed. They said that what the dark old man gave me was a gift, to live for a hundred years and I never really treated it as a curse as well." Zeal responded.

Why is that?" Chloe asked.

"Because I thought it gave me the opportunity to find my father and to maybe someday, bring them back home. But now I realized that it really is a curse. I watched everyone I love go on without me and that is my curse, to walk this earth knowing everyone is gone." Zeal said.

Chloe looked at Zeal and saw pain in his eyes. She knows what Zeal went through because the two of them were not any different from each other.

"Destiny really has a terrible way of messing up with people huh." Chloe said.

"Sometimes I think about what you said back then, about not choosing this life and being normal like everybody else. Sometimes I wish we had that." Zeal said

"Yeah, that would've been nice." Chloe answered.

The two stood there for a few more moments, under starry skies.

Meanwhile, Guillen woke up and looked at the time. It was already 2:30am, but Chloe still hadn't come back.

Guillen was worried because she thought maybe Chloe got into trouble and Chloe always ran into trouble when they were still in high school. She went out and looked for her. She first went to their favorite coffee shop, but she didn't find her there.

She went further to look for her until she found herself lost in a street she's not familiar with. She then took out her phone to use Google maps, but her battery died. The streets were empty, so she had no one to ask for directions. On her right was an alleyway with a flickering light from a lamp post, which had a defective light bulb.

She heard scratching and what sounds like a cracking sound. Guillen started in the alleyway and saw a figure which looked like an old woman kneeling on the ground.

"Hello?" Guillen said at the figure.

As she walked towards the figure she confirmed that it was an old woman because of the way she dressed and the wrinkles on her arm.

"Are you ok ma'am? Are you sick? Do you need help?" Guillen said as she approached the old lady.The old lady made growling sounds.

"Ma'am" Guillen tapped the old woman's shoulder.

The old woman suddenly stopped moving. Her head was slowly turning around, making a cracking sound. Guillen slowly stepped back. She then watched as the old woman turned her head at a one hundred and eighty degree angle. Guillen trembled in fear. She wanted to run, but her body wouldn't move.

The old woman tilted her head and slowly stood up. Guillen saw what was in front of the old woman; it was a guy ripped to shreds and his face opened up.

Guillen screamed so loud, but the old woman put up a small barrier to trap Guillen's voice.

"Shhh.." The old woman whispered.

"Do you want a cookie? Here I have some."

The old woman laughed maniacally.

Guillen fell down on her bottom in fear of the old woman who was slowly walking towards her.

She stayed down with tears slowly pouring from her eyes. She couldn't speak or move.

"Don't cry my dear" the old woman smiled until it reached her ears.

Guillen was trembling.

"N-no please don't.. I don't wanna die." Guillen was crying and frightened.

The old woman started walking faster towards her with her mouth repeatedly making fast biting sounds.

She was almost in front of her when Guillen shouted and raised her hand in defense of her own life.

"NOOO!!"

Guillen closed her eyes. She was thinking that it was the end for her.Suddenly the stars disappeared. Clouds gathered as if rain was coming.

Chloe and Zeal at the cemetery noticed the unusual movement of the sky.

The old woman was right in front of her; she opened her mouth, ready to bite Guillen's head off when the air around Guillen slowly vibrated. The old woman screeched then suddenly a lightning struck her.

Guillen and the old woman were both blasted away. Guillen hit her head against the wall. She stared at the old woman; her vision was getting blurry, and she was losing consciousness.

She heard the old woman scream and 5 others like her arrived.

Her breathing was getting tighter; she was about to pass out. Everything was moving slowly when she saw someone land in front of her, a man with a long black coat holding a giant sword and a girl wearing black clothes. The surrounding becomes warm.

"Take her to the mansion."

That was what she heard from the guy in front of her; she could not see their faces because her vision was getting more blurry.

"Understood, come back as soon as your finished here."

She heard the girl say it. She saw the girl carrying her on her back.

"Don't worry your, safe now." She heard the girl say. Guillen passed out shortly afterward.

Meanwhile, back at the cemetery, Chloe and Zeal saw the lightning and felt a magic which they hadn't felt for a hundred years. Although it was weak, they were sure it was the same as Datu Vidas' lighting magic.Chloe quickly teleported the two of them to where the lightning struck. When they arrived, they saw Guillen lying on the wall. She was still breathing and was still conscious. Her head was bleeding so Chloe carried her on her back and teleported her to the mansion.

Zeal was left behind to face the five black witches.

"You got some nerve trying to hurt a royal blood." Zeal said.

"You're a little too young to be that cocky boy. Don't you worry, after we feast on your body where gonna go after her." The dark witch said.

Zeal was pissed at what the witch said. It was a sad day for him and the dark witches just made it worse.

"Who do you think you're talking too?you witch." Zeal said.

The air was getting hotter and hotter.

"And who do you think you're facing? Me and these other four belong to the society of grand witches boy!" The old woman said as she laughed maniacally.

"This boy does not seem to know his place. Let me murder him sister." The other witch said.

Royal bloods of the old era and high ranked aswangs of the dark kingdom such as Elder aswangs had huge amounts of magic in their body and it is increased as they grow up and it continues to increase as they get old. In short, the longer a royal blood lives, the more powerful they become.

As for the lower ranked dark creatures of the new era, they are born with dark magic which came from the blood of their parents. It can still increase, but not as strong as the ones from the old era. Royal blood's power cannot be felt by lower ranked dark creatures because they cannot feel magic that are more stronger than them.

One of the dark witches attacked Zeal. She moved so fast and was in front of him in the blink of an eye. She raised her hand and was about to claw Zeal with her blade-sharped nails.

She laughed as she was about to attack when Zeal grabbed her by the face and smashed her to the ground.

"You're not even worthy to die by my sword" Zeal said while holding the witch's head on the ground.

"Society of grand witches?, Don't make me laugh. I've known the one true grand witch and she will not be taken down pathetically like this." Zeal said.The other four witches were shocked at what had just happened.

"H-he took her down just like that.."

"Who is this boy.."

The witches said.

"Who cares?!, Four grand witches against one boy! The odds are against him! After we murder him we'll make sure that girl follows him in hell!" The dark witch shouted.

They all attacked at once to gang up on Zeal. They were coming from every side.

"Stop bringing the title of the the grand witch to shame you pathetic creatures."

Zeal released a strong hot pressure that dragged the witches to the ground. They could not move their bodies and were having a hard time breathing.

"I don't have the time to teach mere infants like you how to breathe, die." Zeal said.

A raging flame then fell down on each of the witches; they all screamed as they were burned to ashes.

All 5 of the witches died from Zeal's flames. He picked up his sword and hid it with his magic. He was about to leave when he heard someone clapping behind him.

"That was fun to watch."

Zeal recognized the voice.

"Achlys.." Zeal said as he turned his head to where Achlys stands.

Zeal was not having it. That day was supposed to be a day for him to mourn for his beloved family and friends in peace. He had no patience to deal with Achlys.

"You're flames are quite beauti-"

Before Achlys even finished talking Zeal appeared in front of him with the edge of his sword pointed at his neck.

"Are you sure about that?"

Achlys reached for his pocket and took out the glasses. It was Guillen's, and it was cracked.

Zeal was furious.

"What did you do to them?!"

Zeal was ready to take Achlys head right there and then, but he couldn't because of Guillen and Chloe.

"Ahh I just happened to see them so I thought I'd invite that girlfriend of yours to my place." Achlys smiled eerily.

"You rotten creature!" Zeal shouted.

Achlys suddenly became serious.

"Rotten you say? You have no Idea what your father did, don't you?" Achlys said.

"Anyway! Go back to your little mansion. On the table is an address where Guillen is Located. Let's play a game of hide and seek!" Achlys said.

Zeal stood down and rushed to get to the mansion.

"Man.. he's fast!" Achlys said as he laughed.

Zeal arrived at the mansion and saw Chloe lying in the garden. She lost consciousness. Zeal carried her to a room.A few hours later, she woke up. She suddenly remembered what had happened and rushed to get up to go to Guillen.

"Don't move too much." Zeal said.

"Where's Guillen?!" Chloe asked.

"Achlys got him." Zeal said.

"I-im sorry, he caught me off guard. As soon as we arrived he was right behind us and released a toxic gas. That guy is from the old era." Chloe said.

Zeal was surprised for a moment.

"That explains why he was able to knock you out. But I'm glad you didn't have any scratch or serious wound on you." Zeal said.

Chloe then realized her clothes had changed.

"WAIT! DID YOU CHANGE MY CLOTHES WHILE I WAS UNCONSCIOUS?!" Chloe shouted.

"Yes." Zeal answered.

"YOU PERVERT" Chloe shouted as she threw a pillow at Zeal's face.

She threw it so hard, Zeal got knocked out of his chair.

"I WAS MAKING SURE YOU HAD NO SERIOUS INJURY YOU i***t!"

Zeal threw the pillow back at Chloe with double the power and knocked her down as well.

"This is no time to be fooling around witch. Guillen was taken hostage." Zeal said seriously.

"Where are we going to find my Queen?" Chloe asked.

"He left a note."

Zeal looked worried. He passed the note to Chloe and Chloe was shocked.

"This place.." Chloe said while she stared seriously at the note.

"You don't have to go I can save her myself." Zeal said.

"No.. she's my Queen and it's my fault that she got caught. I am her protector and I will do everything to fulfill my duty." Chloe said.

"Understood, get some rest. We go when the sun sets" Zeal said.

Zeal gave Chloe time to get rest for her to regain her strength from the toxic gas. Zeal shined her sword and made sure it was sharp enough to cut Achlys' head.

The time came that the two were about to leave. They both geared up.

"Achlys is not the only enemy we're gonna face there." Zeal said

"Maybe he chose that place in hope that we be caught in a useless fight and waste our energy." Chloe responded.

"Yeah, I think so too. After all, that place is full of savages from the old era. Feared place even back at our time" Zeal said.

"We'll wipe out everyone who gets in the way. The Queen will be back to us." Chloe said.

"Time to go." Zeal said.

The two left to go to the place where Achlys took Guillen. They were ready to do whatever it took to save her;, after all, that place was a place from the old era, a place that was feared even back then, a place where Chloe was tortured. The dark elves' forest.
