As the days passed, Sarah couldn't shake the feeling that something was amiss. Her mother seemed distant, lost in her grief, while James and Emily avoided discussing anything of substance. It was as if they were all tiptoeing around some unseen truth, afraid to confront the past.

One evening, Sarah was rummaging through her father's study, searching for any clue that might shed light on the family's secrets. She stumbled upon an old photo album tucked away in a drawer, its pages filled with snapshots of happier times.

But it was what she found hidden beneath the album that sent her heart racing—a stack of old letters, tied together with a faded ribbon. Sarah's hands trembled as she untied the ribbon and began to read.

The letters were addressed to her father, but they weren't from her mother. They were from another woman—a woman named Rebecca. Sarah's mind reeled as she pieced together the truth. Her father had been having an affair.

She confronted her mother that night, the words tumbling out in a rush of anger and disbelief. Eleanor's eyes filled with tears as she confirmed Sarah's suspicions.

"I knew," she admitted, her voice barely a whisper. "I knew about the affair, but I couldn't bring myself to confront him. I was too afraid of what it would do to our family."
