Adelie POV
Adelie was seething, something about the man threw her off.
He was tall in stature, well, to her everyone was tall. He eye'd her curiously and even a tad bit possessive. He had broad shoulders and he obviously took care of himself, he wasn't body builder like just obviously hit the gym regularly. He smelled like Blackberries and Basil, his hair almost white and was pulled back in a low small pony tail showing off his jaw bone.
Adelie couldn't keep her leg from bouncing as they say across from each other in the kitchen. He looked around thoughtfully, almost avoiding her gaze making her seeth more.
"The two of you will be taking missions together for now, however, Adelie will be taking far away missions on her own for the time being." Julian seemed to snap to focus when Malcolm mentioned that.
"Alone?" Julian frowned, "I don't see why she needs to go alone."
Before Adelie could yell, Malcolm slammed the bowl of fruit on the table causing even myself to jump along with all the female attendants.
"Adelie has been dutifully doing her role for before either of us were ever thought of. So I'd suggest you show her respect, boy." Malcolm laced the last word with venom then eased himself in the chair at the head of the table.
"Malcolm, I don't understand why some half breed c**k is suddenly told to come help me do my job I've done for centuries." I lay my opinion out bluntly not hiding my irritation. Malcolm nods slowly, thinking of his reply.
"There is more going on than you think. Little Bird." Malcolm chose his words carefully. "I need you to trust me."
Adelie was caught between her need to rage and knowing Malcolm has never brought her harm and has been a loyal friend that protected her from Rapheal. So she sat, biting her lip.
Julian POV
Julian grabbed a fruit out of the bowl, a apple and began to devour it.
"Our mate is an odd one, I am not sure when the last angel has ever even been seen by any eyes." Kane stated, pacing in Julian's mind. Kane is Julian's wolf, a proud wolf who argued often with Julian thinking himself smarter since Julian is of mixed blood. Julian never bothered, he always found Kane's presence comforting.
"We came for a goal though, although she is our mate we cannot stray from the goal." Kane knew that in the process of obtaining what we wanted, Adelie will most likely suffer greatly. It bothered us both, the mate bond was intense even if Julian wasn't full wolf his wolf was strong enough to know every fiber of his being needed, wanted, craved Adelie.
Adelie was steaming, Malcolm acted as if it was normal dishing her out her breakfast. Julian wondered to himself if that would be his duty. Then a piece of him wondered why the brat required such hands on caring. Adelie suddenly made eye contact with Julian, sending a jolt through him making Kane whimper.
"It isn't to bad, knowing we will get to care for our mate..." Julian ignored Kane, giving Adelie a smirk.
"Julian you will train with Adelie, Rapheal wants you to be a well oiled machine. To compliment each other." Julian raised an eyebrow at the name, why Adelie finally seemed to still. "Rapheal is the one who chose you for this position, with the high council of course. He rules the Angel affairs. Angels are guardians, protectors, keepers of the gods. All gods. They all are crafted for a specific set of skills, and Rapheal is above all Angel's and l
closet to the gods."
Julian nods, soaking up all the information. "Sounds like a big deal."
Adelie scoffs, causing Malcolm to look at Adelie softly. "You will then study with me in the grand library, and finish the day learning about the city we dwell in."
Julian nodded, seemed like a busy schedule but he learned to be disciplined from his pack while going through training. Although, he belonged to no pack anymore...
Adelie POV
Training was boring, Adelie groaned as she walked back to her room to change. Julian following behind.
"Your room is that way." Adelie pointed down the hall. "Don't ask me for help."
"Aw, and here I thought we could be bunk buddies." Julian joked, his deep voice making her shiver. Before he could see the heat rising to her face she slipped into her room and slammed the door.
"What the fuck..." Adelie whispered to herself, not sure what to think. Adelie pulled on long active leggings and a sports bra. She looked at herself in the mirror, eyeing her knuckles. They were permanently scarred. Each angel could manifest a weapon, this weapon was like a reflection of them and was made with their essence. Rapheal has a long Rapier, while Adelie had claws. Claws that showed when it was time in a young angel's life to finally manifest. After they manifested Adelie was cast down to the dirt and given the task of Reaper. An ugly title, one that would harbor no love and only bring a lonely existence. It is said the reaper before her went insane, cause a great calamity, and required Rapheal and the Guard to subdue them.
Adelie scoffed at the thought, she wouldn't be weak enough to go crazy. She would do her duty.
Adelie met Julian on the way down to the court yard, her hair was thrown in a pony tail and Julian was in work our gear as well but seemed distracted.
"Why does the old man call you little bird?" Julian finally piped up, after ogling me. He seems to think I cannot see him.
"Do you have a phone?" Adelie asks curtly.
"Well, yeah.." Julian replied, confused.
Adelie spun on her heel, looking at him in his blue eyes.
"Then look it up." Julian didn't even seem pissed at her attitude, actually she could tell he was even slightly aroused. This made her cheeks start to heat him so she stormed through the archway into the courtyard before he could see.
Outside Malcolm was waiting with one of the younger male attendants. His name is Reese and he's a slim young man with shaggy black hair and a crooked smile. Adelie always enjoyed his presence, he was the right amount of cocky..
"Good morning my lady, I cannot wait to beat the s**t out of you today."Reese was confident, bowing to Adelie giving her that smile. This time though, Adelie didn't feel the usual burn of arousal and that irked her. Julian on the other hand seemed to be in edge all of the sudden. Stepping forward he announced he'd go first to show Adelie what he could do.
Reese didn't care, before he found his way to the Catherdral he worked for the Yukuza cleaning up loose ends for the boss. He was only 29 but he knew his way around a fight and was a bit of a masochist.
Adelie stepped to the side, standing with Malcolm. Malcolm also eye'd Adelie and grumbled.
"You may be unaware Adelie, but your attire can cause some young men to...go a bit wild" Adelie couldn't help but let out a soft laugh.
"Young men huh?"
"Don't play with this old man Little Bird." Malcolm threatened, smacking her on the behind with his cane. "You are like family to me Adelie, you may not believe yourself worthy but you have always been worthy to me."
Adelie's heart ached for a moment, Malcolm once trailed after Adelie for more than friendship but Adelie wasn't meant for such things. He soon settled into his role as caretaker and that romance he wanted fell away.
Julian POV
The young man smirked at Julian, "The names Reese. But you can call me Boss little brother." Reese seemed to harbor more for Julian than he was telling. Kane hissed a warning to Julian, telling him to be on guard as Reese didn't seem the type to fight fair.
Before he knew it, Kane was right to be on guard Reese gripped him into a head lock chuckling into Julian's ear.
"Why would they choose you to be caretaker? Do you know how hard I've worked?" Julian broke free, using the momentum to land a blow into Reese's right side.
Reese barely flinched, only seeming to use the pain to fuel him. "Do you even know what the importance of the caretaker is?" Julian tried to keep his head in the fight, only managing to keep the fight at the stand still of equal blows. He didn't know was a caretaker did. Julian huffed, "Let's end this dance."
Reese met his fury, both connected with each other. Julian landed a leveled blow to Reese's nose feeling it crack. However, Reese didn't even seem to be bothered in fact he was smiling whole he slammed a fist into Julian's stomach causing him to curl in on himself.
"You fool..." Kane huffed.
"That's enough Reese..." Adelie's voice was soft but firm. She stood in front of Julian, facing Reese head on. "I'm not sure what has you riled up, but you need to cool down."
Reese bowed to Adelie, and stomped off. Adelie turned to Julian, her eyes analyzing Julian. She looked beautiful, her green eyes were bright and she looked like a 25 year old. Only issue was, she was much much older and her aura told that story. A long story, that she has seen much and has possibly suffered much.
"You got distracted..." Adelie knelt in front of Julian, it took all control not to stare at her breasts as they seemed to be fighting to her out of her sports bra. Adelie extended her hand out, placing it on Julian's cheek.
The mate bond crashed into him full force, taking his breath and practically freezing time. Any blood left from his leaking broken nose shot to between his legs.
Adelie's hand began to feel so very warm and then with a painful crack his nose was fixed.
"Argh....warn me or something." Julian groaned holding his nose. Adelie laughed, almost lingering her hand on his cheek before pulling away. Julian felt cold instantly, but before he got caught up in it Kane growled at him to stay focused.
"The mate bond is strong, but it's no use indulging. We don't have fully innocent reasons being here. It is best we keep a distance."
Julian stood up wiping the rest of the blood off his face. Adelie walked a few feet away and was starring at him.
"Adelie, I give you permission to show off." Malcolm called out, patting a grumpy Reese in the shoulder.
Adelie seemed to finally let loose, she smiled and extended her wings. They were powerful, lifting her off the ground with ease. Adelie back flipped and pushed off of a stone column. Julian was so entranced he didn't notice she rebounded off the column towards him with golden claws extending from her knuckles.
"Aw hell...." Is all Julian got our as Adelie crashed into him, slamming his body to the ground as she pinned him with a knee to the center of his chest and her claws to close to his neck.
"You think you can compliment me? We will see...we will see if you can perform the duty of a reaper." Adelie hissed, bringing her face closer to mine her long hair falling over her shoulder. She smelled overwhelmingly of cranberries and spice. "I will only accept you, when you can over power me. Till then, consider yourself nothing more than a worm." Julian couldn't help it, his body shivered at her voice and his hands found her thighs. He was right, his fingers could easily squeeze them.
Adelie let out the cutest squick and before I knew it, all I saw was a flash of feathers and then the sun was beating down at me.
"Let's not sexually harass the charge..." Malcolm grumbled, smacking Julian in the head with his cane. "Come along half breed, we have history to learn." Julian groaned, getting off the court yard ground following the old man to the library. Julian could feel Reese's eyes on his back, but he chose to ignore them. Julian couldn't help be think, that Reese never got to squeeze those legs and was very, very jealous.
