Into the badlands

AVA “Seems like someone had a nice day today?” Mom asked as she walked into my room, seeing me smiling all by myself. “It was worth the try.” I grinned. Today was surprisingly fun, Ruby had made me sign up for archery class and I got to walk around the market it was really fun. I yawned slightly, grabbing my towel as I entered the bathroom. I lay face up on the bed and stared at the ceiling, the image of Logan flashed through my memory, I felt a wave of sweetness sweep through me. I couldn't tell how I felt, why was I getting sexually drawn to someone I'm not supposed to like. I rolled on the bed until my eye lids felt heavy and welcomed the darkness that loomed over me, shutting my eyes, I drifted off to sleep. ________________ “Good morning!” Mom greeted as she opened the windows, the ray of sunlight hitting my eyes. I groaned lazily as I got up from the bed. “It’s not like I have anything to do.” I whined, dragging my legs to the bathroom. “Actually you do.” Ruby squeaked, busting into my room. “Hi Mrs Reed.” She waved at mom, mom returned back the greeting with a smile like though they had known eachother. “Oh, I met Ruby yesterday.” Mom explained when she noticed that I had gone unusually quite as I stared at both of them with a furrowed brow. I briskly walked into the bathroom, leaving mom and Ruby to bond. I could hear their laughs, I chuckled slightly, ever since we got here, this is the very first time I and mom had felt at peace. ______ “So, you ready for your first coaching class?” Ruby teased. Ruby had offered to teach me some of the basics about being a wolf including the rules of the Dark moon pack. “I wasn't expecting it to be this early in the morning?” She stopped on her track as she faced me, “Well that's one thing about being a wolf.” she continued her walk, “You have to be early.” We started out with a little early morning run round the field. It was empty so I guessed it wasn't yet time for the men to start their training. After a few rounds of running, I fell on the wet grass, heavy breathes escaped from my nostrils, hot sweats trickling down from every part of my body. I was completely drenched, one who saw me would think I fell into the ocean. I could barely speak, I was going to pass out if given the opportunity. “Tired already?” She teased standing next to me. “Why aren't you tired?” I asked, surprised that I was the only one breathing heavily. “It’s a daily routine.” she rolled her eyes, “Now let's continue.” she said, almost like a command. I lazily stood up and continued with that run. My legs felt weak, I wanted to stop with the running but I couldn't, it was like I wasn't in control of my body any more, then it hit me. Micha was the one running. “You gotta keep up puppy!” Ruby teased, earning a glare from me at the weird nickname. She was running pretty fast. Micha couldn't run as fast as she can, I could feel her drifting back and I was back on my own again. I needed to be trained well enough before Micha could become a proper wolf. “That’s enough.” Ruby halted and sat under a tree. Panting heavily, I crouched on my knees. “Water.” I whispered. She threw a bottle of water over to me and surprisingly I gulped it down all at once. Fully relieved, I noticed that we were deep into the woods, somewhere close to the spot where Ruby had found me. “Where are we?” I asked staring at the unfamiliar environment. “A place where the Dark moon wolves are bound not to go close to.” She said, unfazed about what i had just heard. “What do you mean?” “It’s the boundary between the Dark moon pack and the Blackwood pack.” My body stiffened as the hairs on my skin rose. “Wha...what do you mean?” I stuttered. “You heard right, Ava.” she continued, “Staying in the territory kinda got boring so most times, I enter the Blackwood territory.” I widened my eyes in horror at what she was saying. “Don’t worry, it's just for fun. No one would notice.” She said, pulling me along with her as we walked into the Blackwood territory. My heart throbbing so fast like it was going to pop out very soon. XAVIER “You can't be serious, right?” Selene snapped at me. “She’s a Dark moon wolf.” I had told her about Ava, I rather expected her to be happy for me but she didn't receive the news with a good heart. She raved about the fact that Ava was a Dark moon wolf but I wasn't accepting it. She was my mate and I was going to accept it irrespective of the pack difference. “Selene!” I growled at her, making her to stop with the yapping. “You have no idea about what you are saying?” “I clearly do, Xavier. She's a human and not just that, she's a f*****g rival.” “She doesn't know anything about the packs rivalry and besides she has no hand in the war.” I said trying to defend Ava. “I do not care, once a Dark moon wolf, always a Dark moon wolf.” “Selene?” I called but she wasn't going to listen to me. “You are going to reject her before the moon goddess and that is final.” She stamped her feet angrily and stormed out of my room. “Selene.” I slumped on the couch. Selene has always been loving, no matter what it was, she has never been one to take hasty decisions. It's really surprising that she would hate on Ava even without seeing her or knowing about her. I puffed out a perfect smoke ring and a slight smile appeared on my face. It reminded me of Ava. Her round face and dark short hair and the way she always bit on her lips whenever she was nervous. “Ava.” I groaned heavily at the thought of her made me have a hard on. I placed the glass of rum on my lips when her scent hit me. She was close by, but how was it possible. She had chosen to stay back with her pack so how is it that she was here. I dropped the cup and stormed out of the room, following her scent and the faster I moved, the stronger her scent gets.
