The first standoff

LOGAN My jaw clenched tightly as I paced round her room. I had entered her room in the early hours of the morning, but Ava was nowhere in sight, her bed cold, indicating that no one had laid on it. The door swung open as James and some of the wolf warriors walked in. “We couldn't find her.” James said, “But we brought her friend along.” He shifted away, I glanced up, staring directly at Ruby. “Where is she?” I asked but she kept quiet, staring down at her feet. I leaned closer, whispering into her ears, my voice calm but husky. “Where is Ava!” She shuddered from my touch, falling on her knees as she pleaded. “I swear by the moon goddess, I have no idea where she is. She ran out into the woods yesterday, surprisingly she was too fast and I wasn't able to catch up with her. I promise, I do not know where she could have gone to.” “The woods?” I asked, glaring at her as she nodded. I huffed out, a chuckle escaping from my lips. “I see, He must have called for her.” I stood erect, “Get the horses ready, Blackwood pack calls for war?” My voice hoarse, yet commanding. __________________ We stood at the boundary that differentiated between Our territory and theirs. He soldiers proved stubborn, not allowing us to go through. “If I can't enter your territory in peace, I have an option of war.” I threatened, coming down from my horse. “You must be out of your senses to utter such words.” Xavier replied, approaching the huge gate. He stood Infront of his warriors as we stared at eachother, glaring. The silence sharp, enough to cut. He stood, his shoulder broad. A smirk tugging at the side of his lips. “I have come to take my mate back home!” I ordered, stepping forward. A scoff escaped from his lips. “You’re mate?” he asked. “Yoi seem to have made mistakes in your sentences. First, she isn't your mate and second she isn't here.” My jaw tightened, as my teeth gritted against eachother. Eyes dark yet steady as it stared unto his. “Ava left the Dark moon pack yesterday and ran into the woods. All investigations points toward your pack. I didn't come for war Xavier but if you decide to play, I can as well join in.” He scoffed, his gaze was cold, eyes darting and narrowing, calculating, like a predator waiting for its prey to fall into it's trap. “Ava hasn't entered my territory yet. If she had, do you think I'll be here talking with you. I'd have marked her already.” My fingers rolled into a fist as I brought it to his face, ready to strike but his men stood prepared. Ethan's bow aiming at me. “You respect what the Alpha says and move back to your pack or be ready to face us.” Ethan threatened, his eyes twitching, giving me a sign that truly Ava wasn't in the territory. “You seem to be prepared, I'll return Xavier and this time, more stronger and fiercer than you are.” I hoped unto my horse, galloping away back to the pack. I had to call for an emergency meeting. If Ava truly Ava isn't with his Pack that means she had gone missing. XAVIER I roamed round my room aimlessly, my thoughts faraway into what Logan had said earlier. If Ava wasn't at the Darkmoon park, the where else could she have gone to? She knows no other place. And she hasn't entered my pack yet else, I would have perceived her scent. “Alpha?” Ethan called walking in, together with Selene. “I heard about Logan's visit, is there a problem?” Selene asked, eyes boring into mine. “Ava seems to be missing.” I blurted out. “Really?” She asked, her voice sarcastic. I glared at her as she raised her hands in defense. “You can actually tell us you know, did you hide her?” Ethan asked, earning an eye piercing glare from me. “I apologies” He bowed. “She has only been gone for a day, she might have gone back to the human world, who knows.” Selene's words hit at me but I didn't want to believe it, there was no way she could have gone back to New York and besides she doesn't know the pathway. “Ethan?” I called, as he stared back. “Gather the men, search the woods, go into the deeper parts of the pack. We must leave no stone unturned.” He bowed, leaving the room but his eyes were still scanning the room. “You can begin from here.” I glared at him. He laughed out, his laugh dry but I didn't give in much thought to it. I walked to the door, holding the knob, turning back to Selene who was engrossed in whatever thought she had. “Selene, we really need the much help we can get.” I pleaded before stepping out, banging the door. CALEB My legs ached badly, I walked through the streets, covered in a red cloak so as not to be recognised by Logan's men. They seemed to be paroling the streets, checking houses. My stomach grumbled loudly, earning little stares from the people I passed by. Ever since I got to the infirmary and out into the streets, I haven't been able to eat anything. I had successfully escaped out of Logan's house but yet, still not far from his grip. I had to find Ava faster than ever. “Hey!” A strong husky voice called, I didn't wait to know who it was, I rather hastened my steps. I felt him running behind me, I needed no one to tell me what to do as I took to my heels, eyes darting, looking for the nearest way to escape. “Stop on your tracks.” His voice rang behind me, I knew that voice. It was the voice of the guard who had guarded the prison the day I woke up. I hastened my steps, unknown of where I was headed to, until a hand dragged me aside, into what seemed like a dark alley. The hands covered my mouth as the guards ran past where we hid. “How lucky you are.” The voice spoke behind my ears.
