A friend indeed

AVA I waited patiently for night to come, crouched at a corner, I watched mom slip into the bed and waited quietly before she drifted off to sleep. This was the only chance I had to avert anything else, I didn't want to be caged up in a place where I feel insecure. Quietly, I tiptoed to the door, pulling the handle but realised that it was locked from the outside. “Stupid dogs.” I cursed silently, bringing out my hairpin from my hair. I slowly inserted into the door and it clicked. I turned back at mom and she was fast asleep. “I’m sorry mom.” I whispered and left, shutting the door quietly. As I crept slowly, I got to realise that the building was really huge so escaping wasn't going to be easy. “Head north.” I heard, almost like a whisper. “Micha?” I called. “You wouldn't want to be caught, would you?” I followed her directions until I finally reached the gate. “This is not good.” I said staring at the huge gate. “Micha?” I called silently but got no response. Great, she always disappears when I need her the most. If I was gonna escape, I had to take all the risk. I nervously gulped down, placing my hand on the big gate and before I knew it, I was already climbing it. I successfully climbed to the top and just as I was climbing down, I slipped a foot and came crashing down. “s**t!” I winced in pain. I had injured my ankle and it seemed to have dislocated. I quietly stood up, even in pain, I dragged my foot along the way as I moved. It wasn't an easy run but I tried. I continued to run with only one thought.___Getting my life back.” My head began to feel heavy, I tried to walk again but I couldn't feel my legs. I was in the middle of the woods alone and I couldn't walk again. The pain from my leg hit me again and I winced quietly, trying to hold back my scream. I looked down at the injury and it had already gotten worse. I tried to stand again but I fell back. My eyelids began to feel heavy, closing on its own. “No, please.” I whispered but I felt my body hitting the ground. Before I lost myself to sleep, I felt a figure hover above me. I squinted my eyes to see it clearly but it failed me. “Help.” I cried before I drifted off. ________________ I woke up with a start, I stared around the room I was and it was far from being familiar. It was little, more like a cottage, books were arranged nicely on the shelf. I tried to stand from the bed and something stung me. I stared down and saw that my ankle had been bandaged but it still hurt. I gently stood up, trying not to hit my leg on the floor again. The door opened and a girl about my age walked in. White long hair falling over her shoulder, pale skin with large blue eyes, slightly taller than I am, I guess. She looked like she had just come out from a Japanese anime series. Her thin lips curved up into a smile as she walked towards a table and corner of the room. “Glad to see you're awake?” she said, dropping the stuffs she was carrying. “Where am I?” I asked, staring kneely at her. “And who are you?” “Ruby, Ruby flynn.” She stood in my front with a plate. “And you're still in the Dark moon territory.” “Still?” I furrowed my brows at her, unsure of what she met. “I heard the news about the Alpha's mate and I haven't seen your face here, so I guessed it was you and besides, I know you were trying to run away.” she grinned softly walking back to the table. “How would you know that?” I crossed my hands as I leaned back against the wall. “It’s a small pack, so you know everyone.” she replied. “It’s easy to know when a new face shows up.” “Why did you help me?” “Because you're the Alpha's mate?” she said, more like a question. “Really.” I rolled my eyes at her, earning a chuckle from her. “I was out hunting and saw you, you seemed pretty hurt and I helped out plus your scent was pretty strong. I figured that you might be running away and it won't take long before the Alpha realises you're gone and goes hunting for you.” “Hunting for me?” “Yeah.” she nodded. “When an Alpha goes hunting for his mate, it usually doesn't end well. Don't ask what they do to then, I don't know, just heard.” she raised her both hands in defense. I let out a little laugh, she seemed kinda funny. She sort of reminded me of Caleb. “Breakfast is served.” She said placing a plate of beacon and waffles on the bed. “You look really hungry.” Of course I was so damn hungry, I hadn't eaten anything since yesterday and my stomach was already reminding me about it. But I couldn't just accept food from a stranger. “No thanks, I'm not hungry.” I smiled but my stomach had a different answer as it growled loudly. “You’re stomach seems to think otherwise.” she said giggling. “You don't have to be scared, I didn't poison it.” I glared at her and she winked at me before munching at her waffles. ____________________ “Thanks.” I murmured, wiping my mouth with the back of my cloth. “You’re welcome.” she smiled back at me. “Time to check your leg.” she said sitting next to me as she checked the injury. “You haven't told me your name?” I stared at her, unsure if I should trust this being who was being nice to me. What if she was a secret spy working for Logan. “Hey?” She called, waving her hands on my face. Just as I was about to open my mouth, we heard loud noises outside. “Wait here.” She commanded, standing up. She walked to the door, opening it slightly, she peeped and closed it back so fast. “The warriors are here.” She whispered, “You need to leave.” I stared at her, how was to escape. “Here.” she said, wearing a cloak over me. “You’ll have to go through the back door, be safe.” she walked me to the back door, putting her head out to check if it was safe. “Run along.” she smiled at me. “Thank you.” I mouthed to her and walked out. “Ava.” I said before she closed the door, she turned to look at me. “The name's Ava Reed.” And with that, I ran off, to a direction I know nothing of.
