Chapter 4

Before I knew it, a whole month had passed of my family living at the pack house. I was starting to get used to being here once again, and the acceptance I was receiving from wolves I barely knew was increasing every day. Ever since our altercation in the yard one day I'd been avoiding Narien. Something about his face and demeanor just made me upset so I tried my best to simply not see him. According to Torka he'd apparently come to him to talk about me a few times, but I just didn't want to engage. It was late one evening that I stood outside around a campfire with my father. The others we'd been with had gone to bed, and we were getting ready to do the same. "Dad? Can I ask you something?" I asked softly. "Anything darling." He replied. I sighed. "Can I go home soon? It's just... it seems like things are starting to get better. Alpha's going to address the pack tomorrow and Narien will be the one to take his place." My father's eyes softened as he donned a sad expression. "Your brothers and I will likely stay here for some time yet, but if you want to go home then I won't stop you." My eyes widened in shock at his words. "Really?" I was so happy I could barely conceal the smile that was tugging at my cheeks. "It's nothing against everyone here dad I just... I like to be alone. You know that." He nodded. "I know. But you're always welcome here. Everyone has become so much happier and calmer with you around." I laughed at his words. "I don't have that much of an effect on people, but thank you." He then grabbed a bucket of water and doused the fire with it. "C'mon, let's get to bed and we can discuss having one of your brothers take you home in the morning." "Thanks dad," I rushed his side with a hug. "This means a lot to me." He smiled in response, ruffling my hair. "Of course, hun." When I made it up to my tiny little room I saw my brothers both shuffling trying to get comfortable on the floor. I giggled a little and they both dropped their ears at my voice. I knelt down to them, patting both of them on their heads. "Sleep well you two," I said softly and they both nodded their heads at me. It felt weird communicating with a giant animal, but I could also feel the bond that connected us together. I crawled into my bed after changing and drifted off to sleep thinking about how peaceful my life will be once I am home alone. The next morning, I woke up early in order to try and catch a turn at the showers in the house before anyone else could. I stepped in, enjoying the hot water that coursed down my naked body. I lathered my hair with shampoo and conditioner, washed my face, and then got out. I dried myself with a towel quickly as I could tell people were beginning to line up outside the bathroom for their turn. I pulled my pyjamas back on and wrapped my hair in my towel atop my head before exiting the small bathroom and apologizing to those waiting. Nobody seemed to mind though, as the next person quickly took their turn to clean up for the day. I saw my brothers joining the end of the bathroom line as I walked down the small hallway and they both yawned. "Couldn't have bothered to help us out even a little?" Torka whined. "Saboteur..." Katston muttered. I laughed at their words and waved in response. They were right, I could've woken them up, but I also knew how much those two liked their beauty sleep. I had the bedroom to myself as I got ready for the day. I pulled on a pair of blue jean shorts and a simple white tank top before grabbing a blow-dryer lent to me by Laila to dry my ridiculously long hair. As I finished up Torka entered the room and grabbed the blow-dryer from my hands. He also began to dry his own messy black hair, his towel still tied around his waist. I rolled my eyes, taking my towel and dirty laundy to the hamper in the hallway and making my way downstairs. Usually being up this early meant that not many people would be downstairs yet. Much to my surprise however, I saw my father and previous Alpha Erandius sitting on the back porch. I smiled, approaching the door and opening it slowly. "Morning," I said softly. "I'm going to make myself some breakfast, you two want anything?" My father's eyes brightened up. "Dear, if you could make me a cup of coffee I would be most pleased." "Good morning Amethia. I would also like a coffee if you don't mind." Erandius spoke with a thin-lipped smile. I smiled back. "Of course I don't mind! Be right back." I then closed the sliding door as I stepped back into the pack house and went to turn on the coffee pot. I turned my back for a moment to cook myself some bacon and eggs when I saw Katston trying to steal the coffee I was brewing. "Hey!" I slapped his hands off of the coffee pot with my spatula. "Don't touch that it's not for you!" He grumbled back at me. "That's mean, Ame." "It's for Dad and Erandius, so please don't." I explained. He then reached over my shoulder and pulled a lightly cooked piece of bacon from my pan with his bare fingers, shoving it into his mouth. "Hrm, fine." He said before lazing out of the kitchen. "Argh! That wasn't for you either!" I shouted after him, but stopped when I knew it was just payback for me not letting him have the first cup of coffee like I usually did when we were at home. I smiled once more thinking about going back home. The thought really made me happy. I didn't hate it here but I still didn't feel like I was at home. I felt like I was on some kind of weird and long vacation but I couldn't really go out. Once my pan of breakfast was done, I plated it quickly and placed the pan in the empty sink for someone else to use. Breakfast was a free-for-all at this place and once again the snooze you lose rule came into effect for this meal time too. I then grabbed two mugs and poured the coffee for the two men still sat outside watching the sunrise. I left my plate on the counter near the door to keep a watchful eye on it while I delivered the coffee. "Oh, thank you hun." My father smiled taking the mug from me. "Thank you Amethia." Erandius took a sip from his mug before looking at me. "I hear you're going home soon?" I shot a quick glance at my father who happily had his eyes closed while sipping at his coffee. "I... Yeah... I just miss being in my own bed, my own house." "I do hope it's because you're not at all intimidated by us Werewolves," Erandius offered. "I also know that my son's memory loss was plaguing you for some time there as well. I hope that wasn't adding to your decision either," He added. I clenched my jaw and let out a pained laugh. "Ah well, I'm doing my best to not let it bother me, haha." Except that he had hit the nail on the head. I definitely wanted to go back to my normal life without Narien in it. "That's good. Well I do wish you the best. I hope you'll come back soon." Erandius finished his words with a kind of poise only a leader would have. I nodded my head and headed back inside without another word. I sighed, trying to release all my pent-up anger about Narien when I noticed my breakfast plate missing. My eyes then glided across the room and soon met Torka's, my bacon sticking out of his mouth and the guiltiest look struck in his eyes. "Hey!" I shouted running towards where he sat at the large dining table. "Give that back it's mine!" "Hey! Hey! Okay Ame!! I'm sorry! I'm sorry, please!!!" Torka's voice called out as I playfully smacked his arm over and over again. My food was half-eaten but I still took it from him without any guilt in the world. I ate as much as I could and when I was done gave Torka the last few leftovers on my plate. Those jerk brothers of mine. Always trying to steal my food. I ended up spending the day hanging out with Laila. She wasn't with her mate for once so we were able to spend the day being couch potatoes together. We loved binge watching reality television together. Some of the things people said on those shows were just the absolute funniest. As the sun finally began to set outside Laila turned to me with sad eyes. "You're really going home, aren't you?" My eyes lowered. "Uh, yeah." I said. "When?" She asked. "Dunno yet. One of my brothers is probably going to drive me home." I couldn't face my best friend at this moment. It wasn't like I was going to be that far away, but because we'd been staying in the same place she'd been much happier with everything that was going on in her life. She sighed. "You really don't like it here, do you?" I shook my head, feeling tears come to my eyes as I divulged the truth. "I know people want me here but there's this weird pain in my heart and its why I've avoided coming all these years." "I just hope you'll actually visit." Laila said. "I've decided I'm not going to college. My mate and I are going to become pack warriors so... I'll probably be here most of the time come fall." I nodded. "Well if I decide to take a year off I'll do my best to come visit." I replied. "What do you mean?" She asked with inquisitve eyes. "Ah, well... I got accepted into that really fancy college. You know, the one on the other side of the country?" I met her gaze although I didn't want to as I saw her eyes sadden. "Then you'll just have to visit lots before you leave and when you come home on the breaks, okay?" She said quickly. "Pinky promise or I swear to God I'll hunt you down Amethia." She then presented her pinky to me. I laughed, taking her pinky in mine and shaking our hands up and down. "I promise I'll visit." "Where are you going?" Narien's voice suddenly filled the room. He stood at the doorway, arms crossed and leaned on his right shoulder. "Hi Alpha. We were just talking hypotheticals. Like if Amethia goes to college across the country next year." I rolled my eyes. "Nevertheless, it's none of your business." "Of course it is. I am your Alpha afterall." He smirked, his cockiness increasing by the second. I gave him a death glare. "No, you're not 'my' anything. You're not my Alpha, you're not my friend, you're not even my acquaintance. You're nothing to me." Laila stood. "Okay! I see you two have some... stuff you need to talk about so I'm gonna go." Before I could protest she was gone and Narien approached the couch where I sat. "I don't think your family would like it if you moved somewhere they couldn't protect you, Ame." I jumped up. "Y-you are not allowed to call me that!" I shouted. "Am or Ame is what my friends and family call me. And in case I wasn't clear a minute ago we are not friends and I don't want to even be friends with you. Are we clear?" Narien looked sad at my words, but he gave me a curt nod. I then began to storm out of the room but before I could get out Narien grabbed my arm. Sparks shot through my body as my eyes met with his, our faces mere inches apart. His eyes widened as he slowly released me. "It can't be..." He said softly. He then used his other hand to try and caress my face, wiping the tears I hadn't noticed away. The feeling of sparks flying happened once more as he did so and I tore away from his grasp. "Just leave me alone!" I screamed at him, running up the stairs to my small little room and packing my bag quicker than ever. I texted Katston to be ready to take me home ASAP. There was no way I was staying here one more night.
