Chapter 21 - POV Damon - Marissa

We've been playing COD for a long while now. I can't seem to concentrate. I’m sitting with the gang, and feeling on edge. I don’t know what's wrong with me, but Jax can feel it too. Something has happened and yet no alarm bells are going off. I've checked in with border patrol already and nothing. They told me it'd been quiet all night. So what is it?

‘Mate, mate is in trouble.’ That's all I got from Jax.

‘Jax buddy we don’t know who our mate is yet. It's got to be something else.’ I kind of rolled my eyes at him. Wolves don't feel when their mates are in danger until they meet them. You'd think Jax being the actual wolf. He would know that. Dumb wolf.

‘You’re stupid. It’s mate. We need to go to mate.’ Oh sure I'll just hop on the mate train, to mate Ville, and check on her. Oh wait, shocked Jax, we don't know who she is. If this is about my mate, I hope to the Goddess she's okay.

I cut off the link from Jax for a bit. Being called stupid isn’t exactly my idea of easing this feeling, though I probably shouldn't have started with the names first. He’s also being ridiculous, as people can’t feel their mates' woes until they have met each other. As far as I know, we remain currently mateless. I tried to turn my attention back to the task at hand. Sacrificing Patty so that Sarah and I can take down the opposite team's sniper. Sarah even plays like Charlie, much to Patty’s dismay. I tried to laugh but that feeling is still there.

Ihear Max's phone go off and then he abruptly gets up and excuses himself. He says his beta is calling and steps away from the mayhem on our tv screen. I can somewhat hear his conversation and the worry in his voice makes me put down the controller. Effectively ending our match. Much to Sarah's dismay. The pit of my stomach drops again as my phone begins to ring. I’m instantly on high alert as I read the caller ID. It’s Charlie. I’m positive she is the reason for my feelings of dread. Charlie, something is happening to Charlie. It must be bad if Max was also been getting a call. Something has happened at the academy. I knew that school was going to bring dread. Instead of letting my thoughts run away with me, I picked up the phone.

“Charlie what is it? Wait, stop, go slower, I can't understand you.” I can hear the distress in her voice, it's almost impossible to understand what she's saying.

“It’s Marissa, the vamps, they, they, they grabbed her, we found her, we fought them off, or him rather. Damon you need to come here, she's not waking up and I need my brother. It’s all my fault.” I can hear the tears, as their future alpha I need to know who hurt Marissa, I need to protect my pack members. Why does Charlie think it's her fault? Why the F*** were vamps on academy grounds? That place was supposed to be locked down and wolves only, as far as I knew. Does this have to do with the rogues, I wonder. Jax is in a panic now too. I assume it's because vamps were around his sister.

“Okay, okay, Charlie, we are coming. Stay put, we are coming.” I know it will take us a while to get there, the academy is 3 hours away but I’m sure we can make it in 2. Patty and Sarah are running for their bags. We all pile in my car and just as we are about to take off, Max pulls open the back door and says he's coming too.

I’m thankful he wants to come and I assume he is also under the impression that this has to do with the rogue attacks on his pack and others. It’s just a feeling right now. Though with the rumours surrounding the vampires and them showing up at the academy. I think we might be on the brink of another war. I’m terrified we aren’t prepared.

"Max, what did your Beta tell you?" I'm hoping maybe he has more information for us.

"Honestly man, he didn't have much to say only that he was able to fend off the vamp while Charlie got Marissa out of there and to the hospital. It's odd man. Vamps have always been on campus to go and party at Wolf City. Usually they keep to themselves. I have no idea why one would risk attacking a student." That didn't help settle me. He's right, why would they risk getting caught after all these years since the academy opened?

"Okay, so game plan when we get to campus we will go straight to the hospital. I need to check on my pack members and Max I'm sure you'll want to talk to your beta. Everyone agrees?" I heard a consensus and looked at Patty beside me. I knew he would feel guilty for not being there for Charlie during that attack. We had both always been there for her. I gave him a reassuring punch to the arm, to which he smiled back at him. Then he turned back to look out the window.

We were about an hour and a half into the drive, when the hair on the back of my neck started to stand. I knew we were close to the academy. I had driven like a mad man the whole way here. Though looking out into the dark woods, I suddenly felt like we were being watched. I tried to look into the woods more and turned down the music. This made everyone realize I was looking for something and they started too. Then out of no where a wolf appeared in the middle of the road. Hackles raised and growled at us. I swerved and just missed the wolf. Now I can see them, they're everywhere. I hear Max in the back yelling.

"GO DAMON, GO! DON'T F****** STOP. THERE'S TO MANY OF THEM, GO!" I hit the gas and sped up trying to dodge the attacking wolves. I knew if I hit one it would damage the car and slow us down. Max was right. There are way too many of them for us to fight. Was this a trap? How F***ing stupid of us to leave without more pack members. I can see the academy opening up ahead and flooring it. As we got closer, the wolves backed off more. Thank the Goddess. I need to get to Charlie and figure out why those wolves were there.

Max seems to have phoned ahead when I was driving as we were let right in through the pass. Thank the Goddess. I can see patrols running in the opposite direction from us. Probably gone to investigate. I hope they share their findings with us later. For now, we need to get to Marissa and Charlie.
