I woke up early and went for a run. I love this time in the morning, with the forest only beginning to awaken. It's silent and yet bustling with the noises of wildlife awakening. I always wanted Charlie to come on these runs with me but she'd always claim that night owls don't do morning runs. I chuckled at that thought because I knew damn well they got you up before dawn at the academy. She must be going insane. After I had finished my run, I went and showered and then headed to the Alphas suite.
Knock knock. Max opened the door in Pjs, with coffee in hand, and looked a bit like maybe I had just woken him up. I couldn't help but let out a laugh and tell him how rough he looked.
"Geeze man, it's 9 in the morning. I've already gone running, ate breakfast and showered." I laughed again
"Not all of us are morning people, man, some like to gradually wake up, smell the coffee and then maybe sleep with our eyes open for a little longer." He joked, but if I'm honest I could have closed my eyes and picture Charlie saying something similar. ha
"Okay, okay, go get dressed. There is better coffee downstairs. I'll grab you some of my sister's secret stash of highly caffeinated coffee, she thinks I don't know about." I turned to go start making the coffee as I heard him grumble something that sounded like Okay.
I returned with the coffee and found a slightly more alert Max. At least he was showered and dressed. I handed him the coffee and watched him inhale it, and take his first sip.
"OH man, this is the best coffee I've ever had. Where do I get this?" I laughed
"Honestly man, I have no clue. My sister got it imported from somewhere." he looked a bit disappointed. I assured him next time I talked to her I'd find out where and that he could take a bag from her stash home. This made him happy.
We left the suite to show Max around and ran into none other than Patty and Sarah giggling in the hallway. I love Patty, but seeing him with Sarah definitely pulls at my mate strings sometimes. I want what they have. I actually really like Sarah too, she completes him. She loves helping out in the kitchen and gardens, but her real love is being a warrior. Weird I know. You’d think, because of her tiny stature, she wouldn’t be any real threat. I think she might actually be able to even stand against Charlie. That brings a smile to my face. Charlie never got to see her fight. She probably doesn’t even know that Sarah is this little mighty mouse with strategies that even impress me sometimes. I can see why the moon goddess put them together. If I didn’t have Charlie, Sarah would have made a perfect beta too, and as the mate of the son of the current beta she would have been the natural selection.
Patty sees us walking towards them, and starts to get excited. Oh goddess, what is it now?
“Hey Damon, what's up? How’d the uh, meeting go?” he nods towards Max, I give him a quick rundown of everything that went on. He knew why we were meeting and knew of my plans to offer support. Only naturally he would be curious as to how it went and why Alpha Max was still there. I had not informed him that Alpha would be staying with us for rest of the week.
“Oh, sweet, welcome to Silver Moon. I’m Patrick, people call me Patty, Beta James’s son, and this is my mate Sarah.” I can see the slight irk cross over Max’s eyes when he mentions his mate. He quickly recovers though. I'm sure he feels the same as me. Like something is missing without his mate.
“Hey, call me Max, I didn't realise you had a Beta Damon, he could have come to the meeting.” Ah right. Before I could correct him, Patty jumped right in.
“Oh I’m no Beta.” I looked at the look of confusion on Max's face at that and he looked at Sarah as if to insinuate that maybe she was a Beta. Patty noticed immediately and spoke up.
“Nope, not her either. She's, in my opinion, definitely our best warrior and I’m a doctor in training. Our future Beta would have loved to have been here. You should have heard how fired up she was about missing this meeting.” Yep, sounds like Charlie.
“She unfortunately is away training at High Moon. So she was unable to come. She actually just started.” I still think I could have just had her train under Beta James but everyone insisted differently, including Charlie in the end.
“Ah I see, I actually attend the academy too. I’m in my second year. My Beta and his twin sister are also there, they are in their first year as well. I’ll be going back soon. Probably around the time of the next mating ball and finishing off the semester. Dad thinks I need academy training to be the best Alpha I can be.” Man, everyone is going to this academy. I’m starting to think I’m feeling left out. Maybe I should talk to dad about enrolling. I’ll talk to Max about it a bit more later. Wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to train with Charlie, as beta and alpha.
Suddenly, I was reminded to stop thinking in my head and concentrate on the conversation in front of me with Patty.
“Oh, have you checked your phone lately? Go to the group chat. You won't believe who Charlie's roommate is. You also won't believe your eyes when you see the picture. They're going out tonight to something called "Wolf City”. On hearing that, I went to pull out my phone to look, while listening to Max let us all know that "Wolf city" isn't a city at all but an on-campus club for wolves to let loose and dance and other species with permission can attend to, as long as they don't cause trouble.
What I didn’t expect was to see my sister half naked, a growl escaping my mouth. Since when does she dress like, well, uh, a woman? Gone only a few days and she’s all dolled up. What power does this academy have? That's when I took a closer look at the other girl in the photo. She's beautiful, her hair cascaded down her face, her lips are plump and inviting and her dress, goddess that dress. I could die a happy man tearing that off her. I hear Jax growl in my mind seductively and know he agrees. Marissa, the elusive Marissa.
I’ve dreamed about Marissa since I was a little kid and she would only play with Charlie and not me. I had plans to ask her out the night of the beach bash, but Piper messed that up. I ended up needing to cheer Charlie up instead and then poof Marissa was gone the next day. This academy is looking more enticing every day.
“Judging by your open mouth, I can only assume you see that our little Charlie is all grown up. I’m sure you didn't miss the fact that she's with your dream girl either.” Patty knew about my love for Marissa. He and I had been discussing Marissa when we overheard Pipers comments. I went to defend Charlie but witnessed Marissa doing that just fine. The way she so eloquently put Piper in her place, only made me want her more. I knew I had to tend to Charlie first though, so I took off without even saying thank you to Marissa.
“Uh yeah I see what she's wearing. Call her, she's not allowed out in that outfit. She needs a sweater.” I heard Sarah laugh and tell Patty to not even think about calling. Max is sitting there all awkward; he hasn't even seen the picture. Patty picks up on that and shows Max the photo.
“So I might just have to go back to the academy earlier than expected, cause I'm not sure I want anyone else's hands on her but me.” I can tell he said it without thinking first, but Jax came to the surface in defence of Marissa.
“Leave Marissa alone.” I growled out, looking at him with my wolf eyes. That's when I hear Patty laugh, I turn to him.
“Hate to break it to you Damon, but I don't think he’s looking at Marissa.” I instantly relaxed, a weird reaction, I know. I haven't even seen Marissa in three years.
‘Doesn’t matter she is ours and he nor anyone else can have her’
‘Well clearly you’re hooked. We haven't seen her in years. She might not even be the same person anymore.’
‘I don’t care she's ours’ Jax abruptly cuts off the link. Odd.
Then a light bulb went off, and I realized if he's not looking at Marissa then he was checking out my little sister! Then to the whole room I exclaimed my feigned disgust at someone checking out my sister. Ew dude, that's my sister.
“Yeah your sister, not mine.” He smugly smiled and I lightly hit him in the arm and walked off laughing.
Maybe we all need a drink. We headed down to the common room to play some COD. Let's test the Alphas skills on the battlefield.
