Chapter 24 POV - Damon - Mate

I laid down beside her, and thanked the Goddess for gifting me with Marissa as my mate. I can’t believe I finally found her. On some level, I guess I always knew it was Marissa.

Flashback

I can hear Charlie playing with Marissa down by the creek. Charlie is always so possessive of there time. She never lets me join them. She always just states this is girl time and I have to leave. Or they ran away laughing at me. It’s not fair, I want to play in the creek too. Marissa is pretty. I’m definitely going to marry her someday. It’ll be perfect. Marissa is good at tag and mom and dad already love her. If only they would let me play. I’m sure Marissa would be impressed with my tag skills as well. I always hear her commenting on how fast Charlie is. I’m even faster. I’m sure she would love me.

As I sat there with Patty, I was ranting about Charlie keeping Marissa to herself again. I can hear him chuckling. He knows I love Marissa. Yet he refuses to help with the situation. I’m sure Charlie and Marissa would let us play if Patty joined us too. He is Charlie's other best friend after all. Though he always just tells me to let it be. He says we’re 12 and don’t need girls in that way anyway. He’s stupid. I know it would be great! I see mom and dad together. They always look happy!

“That’s it, I’m going over there and I’m going to demand Charlie let me play!” I said out loud. Clearly, Patty can hear me though.

“Okay lover boy, good luck!” I hear the sarcasm in his voice, but I don’t care. I started walking over to the girls. Patty remained ont he lounge chair playing with his Pokemon cards.

Okay, I can do this. I’ll just alpha command them to let me play. It’s perfect.

“Hey guys”, I gave them a moment to look up and respond. Of course, Charlie is the one to respond. I gave a slightly annoyed look.

“No, don't even ask, you know my answer, Damon. This is girl time. Now go away and play with Patty.” Oh, my sister gets on my nerves sometimes. They both got up and went to take off and run. Well, here it goes.

“I, Damon Woods, demand you let me play with you!” Yep nailed it! Or maybe not judging by the way they are now looking at me, like I have two heads. They both break out laughing. Confusion crossed my face. I swear I felt the alpha command in my voice.

“Did you seriously just try to command me? Oh Brother, you’ve got to do better than that. Forgetting that I’m your twin and therefore your equal.” She laughs and they run off together. I sulk my way back to Patty. I know he heard everything and he simply gave me a look and a smug smile.

Why didn’t it work, even without my wolf yet? I should have had some power over at least Marissa. Ugh, life sucks.

End of Flashback

As I lay beside Marissa in bed, gently stroking her arm. I think back to that moment, and it hits me.

‘Jax! You knew, didn’t you!’

‘Of course I knew. Why do you think I always had us keep tabs on her? You might not have figured it out that day, but I did.’

I chuckled to myself. He’s right, I should have figured it out that day. Our mates are our equals in every way. We can’t alpha command them. For obvious reasons, my command didn’t work on Charlie. It should have worked on Marissa at least. Though it didn’t. She, too, was able to resist my command and run off with Charlie. I laughed once more at myself. I felt her begin to move. I sat up and looked at her as she opened her eyes. That's when I hear those sweet words from her lips.

“MATE” turned I could see the shock on her face, but it quickly turned to love and understanding. Then fear as she realises she's in a hospital bed. I quickly let her know it was alright and she is safe now. I hugged her to me and felt her body relax against mine. She feels like home. I never want to let her go again. I’m definitely attending the academy now.

I took the time to explain everything that transpired to get her here. Including the last part about Charlie finding her mate. Her eyes started to smile and she laughed out loud at their situation. The laughter made her wince in some pain and I was reminded she should be resting. I told her to lay back down and to rest. Letting her know I won't be leaving her side tonight. We can check on Charlie in the morning. I snuggle in beside her on the bed and she curls her body into mine. The tingles are shooting through our bodies. Oh goddess, I love this girl so much. We both drifted off to sleep.
