Chapter 4 - POV Charlie - Just Some Fun

1194 Words
The boys and I spent the night at the cabin. We have a couple of blow-up mattresses and an old comfy couch, so it's comfortable, it's ours, and when you're playing COD till sunrise you don't really need help falling asleep even in somewhere uncomfortable like a blow-up mattress. Given that we're wolves, we could also easily sleep just about anywhere if we transformed, though it wasn't needed last night. I started to get up and go to the bathroom, lightly kicking Patty on the way there, who looked way too comfortable on that old beat-up air mattress. He gives me a grunt and turns over. Well, I guess it's just me this morning, as I know Damon must already be up and back at the pack house for Alpha training. Another thing we don't really share is his ability to fully function on like two hours of sleep. Ugh, where is the coffee? Note to self, sanctuary needs a coffee maker. 'Ah yes, well, maybe that is just another thing the academy will help you with. You do remember that academy learning hours are sun up to sun down right.' Iris smiled smugly in my mind. Although we share a body, you would think she's been training her whole life as she is always trying to get me up earlier to train. How can I be a night owl and her an early bird and share the same body, gosh mood Goddess. Why be so cruel? 'Oh hush you, now let's go for a run!' I can almost feel Iris jumping around in my head with anticipation and that dopey look wolves get when they're happy and their tongue hangs out. 'Excuse me, don't make me sound like a fool just cause I actually got some sleep last night. Besides, we have a lot to do today and starting it off with a run will make me happier. Remember we need to talk to your mom today and ask what was up with her last night. I get this feeling that what she is thinking is important.' That sparked my memory, and I think we can both agree on that. 'You're right Iris, I also want to ask more about mom's original pack. Shadow pack I believe was the name. It's weird that we never visit and they never visit. She was the Alphas' daughter too. I believe, anyway, you would think they would want to know their daughter's family.' I now had a plan for the day, but first a nice run out to our pond for a swim, and then coffee, lots and lots of coffee. I transformed seamlessly into Iris. She is, or rather we are, a beautiful black wolf with one white paw. One thing I love the most about us is that our eyes remain an emerald color. We lose the sunflower as that is a more human trait, but damn, we are one gorgeous-looking she-wolf. I can almost hear Iris blushing at my words, she totally agrees. We are bigger than an average she-wolf, being of Alpha bloodline. This I love, as in human form I'm quite small, but at least we shine in wolf form. Did I mention we are fast, our feet started pounding forward through the lush trees surrounding us, and I can feel the earth between our paws and the wind as it wraps around our bodies as we raced towards the pond faster and faster, swerving every once in a while and finding some logs to jump over. This time spent running helps build endurance and the bond with our wolves. As we arrived at the pond, we pushed it a bit and leaped into the air, and dove into the water. Iris's sharp and strong mouth clamped down as a fish attempted to evade us. She reared her head up out of the water with the fish in her mouth and swam to shore. Nothing like a good bass fish in the morning to start the day off right. After finishing our breakfast, we trotted back to the cabin. I quickly changed and grabbed the clothes I had put in the tree hole and walked in to find Patty as he was coming out of the bathroom. "It's about time you got your lazy butt up. What kind of doctor will you be if you can't even wake up for your morning shift after a night shift." I smiled smugly at him. "The kind that will understand work-life balance and never book me a morning after a night shift." He looked at me like he had all the answers. "Ya, ya, well come on I want to get back to the pack house and talk to my mom. I have to ask her a few things. I also don't need you complaining that I left you to run all the way back by yourself, so hurry up so I can beat your a** back to the pack house." I knew this would get him to speed up. Patty may want to be a doctor instead of a Beta but his Wolf Ryker would definitely have a problem with me challenging him in wolf form. I saw the glint of his wolf come to life in his eyes and knew he was about to change. "Well, hello to you Ryker, you really think you'll beat me today? Little Patty cakes there seems very tired today." I jested, that I could use another good run before I go and talk to my mom. For some reason, I feel like my conversation with her is going to need me in a good and clear headspace, and running always does that for me. "Oh, I know I can beat you. Patrick might be tired, but I'm no Patrick." He smiled, I knew he was game, what he was saying was true. Ryker was a true Beta wolf, loyal, and strong, he wouldn't make this race easy and we both knew it. We both changed and took off for the pack house, Ryker tried to playfully nip my heels the few times I got in front of him, but Iris managed to dodge easily enough. Though Ryker is faster than us, we are definitely more nimble. We saw the approaching broken tree up ahead and led Ryker down the path. As he got excited about the pack house clearing ahead, he turned slightly to smile at me thinking he was going to win and Iris winked at him just as his body slammed into the fallen tree. We easily jumped over and lightly trotted into the clearing and won, letting out a magnificent howl for all to hear our victory. Then I went and changed behind a tree. "Hey, no fair you saw that tree didn't you, Charlie, now I'm tired and my head hurts, I'll get you back for that." I could only smile at his words and walked away triumphantly, leaving a sulking Patty. I'm sure an embarrassed Ryker too. Patty ran off to get ready for their shift at the hospital, I was off to shower, change my clothes and go find mom.
