Because her partner carried a large box, whose contents remained unknown to her, Agent Gold fumbled with the bouquet and pressed a buzzer to announce their presence. Nurse Lewis greeted them, wearing an expression that read both suspicion and warmth.
"I'm not supposed to let anyone in after six," the nurse advised. "I could get into trouble for this, but I gather you came a long way and Marie sure could use a friend."
"Has her condition changed?" Amy asked.
"Not drastically, but she seems more agitated in recent weeks. And one night we found her running down the hallway. What did you bring her, Mr. Henry?"
