8 Adrian’s POV. I stepped into the room and froze. Lily stood by the desk, a crumpled piece of paper clutched in her trembling hands. My stomach tightened. Something was wrong. “Lily?” I called out carefully. She turned slowly, her movements rigid and mechanical—like it took everything in her to face me. I had seen her angry before. I had seen her hurt. But this was different. She looked at me like she didn’t recognize me. Like she didn’t know who I was anymore. I took a step toward her, but she flinched.
