They Know

I woke up in the cells still in wolf form bandaged up. Little Lucas was watching from outside the door and jumped when I sat up. He pointed to where they left me some clothes to put on. I shifted and quickly got dressed walking over to the door.   “I tried to tell them you were one of us” he said with tears in his eyes. “Hey don’t cry, it’s ok. We will get this all settled and they will let me out. All that matters is that you're safe” I replied, wiping the tears away.   I knew I was put in here for the safety of myself and everyone else. They didn’t know when I first shifted and I was hurt so I was unpredictable. I heard the door open and people coming down the stairs. It was alpha Michael, my uncle and Noah coming down to check on me. Alpha Michael and my uncle didn’t look shocked about me being the golden wolf but Noah sure was. They were just wondering why I didn’t tell them I shifted into my wolf already they were able to tell it wasn’t my very first shift.   I was let out of the cell and we went to see the pack doctor for my side. It was fully healed and I was allowed to leave. But my new found shadows were not going to let me be. The only one I didn’t mind was Lucas. I knew he was scared of what happened and what he saw. When I got outside from seeing the pack doctor Lucas’ parents were outside waiting. They hugged me and thanked me for saving their son.   None of us know why they took him, wrong place wrong time? We’re they really after him? No one else was hurt or taken, the rest of the pups made it to the safe house and stayed there until James went and got them.   I took Lucas’ hand and had us walk over to where the kids were playing. I still want to know why he was so upset. But he wouldn’t tell me and after what happened today the kids were acting different around him, they were wanting to be his friend. They were wanting to help protect him. This warmed my heart in ways I can’t explain.   The kids were happy we were both safe, and wanted to try to get at least a little bit of practice in so we headed over to the archery field. The younger kids worked on the targets that were still, while the older kids were learning how to hit a moving target. All except Lucas he was to be my assistant until his wounds on his sides were fully healed.   Lucas wanted to work on getting better to defend himself, but didn’t argue. He would get arrows for the class when they ran out, or come get me when one of the kids needed me and I was helping another. Class was short because of the day’s event, and even after class Lucas wouldn’t leave my side.    I grabbed his hand once again and started the walk to his home. His parents were outside waiting for him as it was about time for dinner, and I mindlinked them I was on my way with him. Before I left I gave him a hug and told him he can always come to me for anything. Once I saw him and his parents walk safely into their house I started to head back to the pack house to have dinner as well.   Dinner was pretty quiet as everyone knew we were attacked, but it was a secret how I was involved. I was told no one was to know I shifted yet beside the few trusted people, which wasn’t an issue for me. I knew it would help keep me safe. After dinner I headed up to my room and got ready for bed.   Not long after I laid down I heard my door open and close. I opened my eyes to Lucas standing by my bed looking like he had been crying. I figured he probably had a nightmare and came to me since he was scared. I lifted my blanket and patted the bed for him to climb in. He quickly snuggled up to me and I dropped the blanket back down.   I mindlinked his parents that he was in my room, and I was letting him sleep here tonight so they wouldn’t worry. I was his age once and had nightmares, still do so I know how it feels to want to be with the person that saved you. I feel asleep with him snuggled up to me holding on tight so I wouldn’t leave him.  When I woke up the next morning he was still clinging to me me for dear life. I started to rub his back to wake him up so I could change and take him back home. after a few minutes he finally woke up and let me go. I went in my closet and quickly changed. Once I was dressed for the day I went back and picked up Lucas to carry him back home. His parents were waiting out front of their house for us. Its was still early but later for me since I missed my workout, I headed to the track to see if James would let me do it with the warriors or if I had to wait until they were done.  "Hey James" I smiled. "What's up Nevaeh your here late today" he replied. "Yea circumstances made me late I was hoping since you changed your training I could join in" I quickly gave him the puppy dog eyes. "Sure maybe you can kick these men into gear for me" he laughed. "Ok how many miles do we need to run and is there a time limit to have it done" I asked stretching. "We do 12 miles and I would like it done in an hour" he smiled. He knows I do 10 with no problem and it less then an hour so he wants to give me a slight challenge since I haven't upped my miles yet. I could hear some of the warriors whispering I shouldn't be out here I'm just a child. Artemis I'm going to need a little boost from you to put these boys in there place. I guess they haven't learned in my class don't under estimate me. James told us to start and I took off like a bullet, and finished with just a few minutes to spare. Meanwhile then men were told to stop a few miles under what they were asked. I finished before they did for the rest of the work outs, and when training was done they were told the changes were made and have been increased as he watches me every morning. All the warriors were shocked and mad they were beat my a child, that they thought didn't have their wolf yet. I said goodbye to James and went back to the pack house to shower. Serena was waiting for me outside and looked pissed. I decide to act like I didn't see her and enter the back of the house so I could get to my room. I was able to make it there and lock the door before she caught up. I could hear her banging on my door but I just went and took a shower so I could do as much school work as I could before my archery class for the warriors. We changed it wo where I worked with the children one day a week, and the warriors one day a week. Serena finally gave up and went away, and the rest of the day went by fast.
