Erin sat by the fire right outside of the stables, holding a cup of warm tea in her hands, draped in old robes and blankets to keep her warm. They had found the person named McKen not too long after they ran into Kaylan. Erin gave him some medication and helped bandage his sprained foot and wounds, then Kaylan half-carried him while Alaric led them through the forest. Just as he said, it was a short trip to a nearby town, which the men spent talking about the wonders they had seen, the impossible things from “another world” which Erin recognized as a city that was just three hours away from Ashen City. She stayed behind them and listened in—her new reality very slowly setting in as she heard the two other men speak like Alaric, and basically try to protect Alaric and herself along the way
