CHAPTER 2 The weather on Wednesday morning didn’t look too promising. The lake, almost frozen enough to stand on, reflected a sky the color of gunmetal. Already denuded completely of their colorful foliage, tree branches clawed the sky with gnarled fingers. Caroline clung tight to her coffee cup, trying to keep her hands warm while she waited for Victor to pick her up. Her belly thrilled over and over with nervous excitement. Spending the long weekend snuggled in bed with him sounds incredibly appealing. Much better than another holiday with the family. She rolled her eyes.
