CHAPTER 3
Saturday evening, Caroline’s cell phone rang. She fished it out of her bag, which she’d dropped on the floor in the middle of the room, and pushed the button.
“Hey, Maggie, what’s up?” she asked.
“Just wondering where you were. I haven’t heard from you in days. I went to your house but no one was there. Did you go to visit your family?”
“No. I’m out of town. Is anything wrong?” Caroline asked, wondering if some emergency had arisen.
“No, nothing,” Maggie reassured her. “I just wanted to be sure you were okay, what with William and all. I’ve never been so pissed at anyone in my life. Stupid Jessica. I’ve been talking to Sophie, and we both think she should be out of the group for what she did.”
“William who?” Caroline quipped.
Maggie scoffed into the phone.
