Pearl's POV.
This wasn't me. From when I started playing in the second half, something or someone took over my body entirely.
First of all, I was a bad shooter, I couldn't score points, yet I was doing it as easily as eating while playing against Lilith. Not only that, I used three out of the six Alpha techniques.
'How come?' I pondered, lost as I made my way out of the field, oblivious to the cheers going around. It was then that I noticed that some students in the school had come to watch the match.
"OMG! I never knew she was such a pro."
"I know right. She defeated the prodigy, Lilith Ashbourne. I heard no other female has ever had such an honour."
I almost laughed at those words. Defeat? I didn't defeat her; it was a f*****g tie, but it was still enough to crush her.
Whispers began to flow around and despite the pride swelling in my head, I was still confused about what had just happened.
It was as if I was being controlled, or rather, what to do just sparked in my head, and I implemented it. I couldn't blame this on my wolf because I had none.
I was an omega. Also, I using the shadow clone move was alarming. When Lilith unleashed her trump card, I shouldn't have been able to resist it.
It was one of her techniques that made her unbeatable and yet, shadow clones came to mind. Creating an exact replica of myself to deceive her.
The mist was an advantage for me as no one could sense the real me. Let's just say I used her signature move against her.
"You bitch." I heard a familiar voice and raised my head to see Lilith right in front of me as she glared at me with disgust. "What sort of tricks did you use out there?"
"What?" I frowned, obviously in no mood for her accusations.
"I am sure you are not deaf." She scowled and I let out a sigh.
"Will you get the f**k out of my presence?" I proceeded to walk past her when she grabbed me and tried to slap me.
Anger coursed through my veins as I tried grabbing her hand but Jaxton beat me to it as he jumped to my front and pushed her back.
Lilith's lips parted in surprise as she stumbled backwards while Jaxton suddenly let out a groan, his face tightening in pain.
Gittens immediately appeared on the field and caged Lilith in his arms, his hand stroking her face gently.
"Babe, are you alright?" He asked tenderly and despite not wanting to, my heart ached.
"f**k!" Jaxton cursed as he dropped to his knees heavily. Immediately, my attention became divided, and I bent to hold him.
"Are you alright?" I asked, worried and Gittens scoffed.
"I can't believe you just almost hurt your mate because of a nobody." Gittens scowled and I shuddered, as I was being reminded of that awful memory again.
"Shut up." Jaxton roared as he tried to get back on his feet, beads of sweat gathering on his forehead.
I get why he was in pain earlier now. Lilith was his mate, and if he did anything to hurt her, his wolf and the bond between them would react.
Gittens' forehead was pressed against Lilith, and he looked like he was coaxing her.
"Don't worry about it. She just had luck, and besides, it was a tie." Gittens pecked her forehead and I immediately turned to look away, digging my nails into my palm.
He must really care about her.
I let out a sigh, wondering if the deal between us still stands, even though neither of us won.
"Miss Ashbourne and Miss Whitmore, please can you come over here?" I heard Director Alex say and turned to see him with a mixed expression.
His eyes couldn't meet mine as he turned around to walk back to the other board members as soon as Lilith and I walked into the tent.
"That was an impressive match." Elara winked at me and I tried my best to smile at her.
"Unfortunately, it ended in a tie, so we have no winner." One of the board members, with gray hair spoke as he relaxed his chin on his hands.
"So who gets to be the Captain?" Gittens asked as he came forward to stand beside Lilith, taking her hand in his.
Lilith blushed and then turned to throw me a smirk, obviously taunting me.
I bit my lower lip hard, taking a deep breath. I should just stop caring about him. He already made it clear who he wants.
"Both of them." Another board member spoke and we all froze.
"What?" Grim frowned, his eyes drifting between me and Lilith.
"I refuse to accept this, let there be another match." Lilith snapped and Gittens nodded in agreement.
"That's a waste of time, especially since we have little time to practice for the upcoming great match," Jaxton spoke up, reminding all of us of the bigger struggle ahead.
"True. I heard the Dragon slayers are participating as well." Griffin chipped in and I stiffened, watching as the remaining 5 Alphas went pale.
I understood why immediately. Yes, the Six generational Alphas are prodigies who no one has ever been able to beat.
But that was only in this country. From Japan, there was another group of players who could take the six of them head-on. Though every match they played together always ended up in a tie.
But still, the six Alphas couldn't take it lying down and promised to crush them in the next tournament which never happened because the six Alphas all stopped playing, due to the horrible incident that happened then.
So naturally, Dragon Slayers topped up, but then they also disappeared for a year or two; no one heard anything else about them until now.
If I had known that they were still in business, perhaps I would have gone to them instead and not have ended up in this situation.
I clenched my fists, trying not to overthink.
"So W
ho's the Captain?" Nathaniel questioned as he threw me a look I couldn't fathom the meaning of.
