A DEAL.

Pearl's POV. I was breathing heavily but decided to turn around and wipe my tears. I shouldn't have let it drop, not in his presence. Perhaps Elara was right. I was allowing shits to happen when they shouldn't. "I will not say this again. Do not participate in that match, your ass would be handed to you." Gittens said. "If someone heard you now, they would think you cared." I chuckled, turning around to face him. "I don't." He cut in and my heart tightened in pain, yet again. "But due to our past interactions, I am trying to save you some dignity. We all know you have nothing on Lilith." He grabbed my bottle of water beside him and drowned it all, before tossing it, in the trash can. For some reason, I looked at the can, feeling like it was me who was being told her place. "I am not quitting." I began and he scoffed. "Then get prep.." He tried saying when I.... "Neither am I losing." I cut in and I watched him frown. "Are you being delusional now? Is reality too hard for you to accept?" He questioned and I cracked my knuckles, refusing to let his words hurt me anymore. The Gittens I knew, the one who swore he would protect and stand by me was now dead, so it was time for me to accept that. "I think you should be the one to accept reality," I told him and he furrowed his brows at me. "We were kids when she whooped my ass; this time, she can only dream of doing that again." I laughed, not knowing where the confidence was coming from. But I guess it was time to stop letting feelings get in my way. "You don't really think you can beat her, she is even better than back then because I have trained her more." He stroked his chin. "At what? Leadership? No wonder she is so full of herself." I smirked and his eyes widened at my words. He probably didn't expect that I could talk back at him. "It doesn't matter. Truth is, she is better than you." Gittens pointed at me but I shook my head sideways, holding up a finger. He doesn't get to talk down at me again. "She was or used to be. I have Grim and he is way better than you, whether you are the leader or not." I countered and his jaw tightened, his brown eyes darkening. I knew I had hit a nerve and could feel my heart pounding but he deserved it. Gittens jumped down from my desk, putting both his hands in both pockets as he moved so close to me that our noses touched. My heart skipped a beat, a lump forming in my throat but I refused to move backwards, I refused to show him my fear. "I will be there to watch you fail." He whispered before walking past me, nudging me with his shoulders intentionally. I tripped, almost falling to the ground, but then stabilized myself. "How about a deal? You bond with me if I win this match." I found myself saying and widened my eyes in shock. What the hell? Gittens turned to look at me, amused as he blinked his eyelashes at me. "You want to mate with me that badly?" He questioned and I huffed. "I need six Alphas under my command to win, and if their captain doesn't listen to me, teamwork wouldn't function," I explained, hoping to convince myself as well with that narrative. "Don't get your hopes up. A loser will always be a loser." He said, referring to me and I winced at his words, glaring at him. "Alright then. It's a deal." He winked before slamming the door hard, behind him. "That Jerk!" I muttered under my breath as I took off my clothes and ran into the shower to freshen up. I stepped out of the bathroom, a towel on my head only to meet a bag of snacks in my room, on the bed. I froze, looking towards the door to see it bolted. I don't remember locking it, so I looked towards the window where the huge breeze was coming from, only to find it wide open. That I remember locking last night, and I don't remember buying any snacks, on my way from training, so who put this here? I looked inside the bag to see a note in it. I picked it up to read. "Always make sure to eat." I read out aloud, knowing it seemed like what Grim would pen down, but then, this wasn't his handwriting. It wasn't even half close, so who brought this in here? I looked to see some energy bars, my favorite chocolates, energy drinks, some chips, juice, and finally a hot dog. My stomach grumbled and my mouth watered as I opened the foil and bit into the hot dog, moaning at how soft and good it was. I mean when last did I have one? I stiffened. What if it was poisoned? I waited for a minute or so, but felt no discomfort or pain, so I continued munching, then pounced on the chips next, proceeding to the juice afterwards. I let out a huge burp after I was done, feeling full even though I didn't eat much but I still needed to sleep. I didn't sleep a wink the previous night and my whole body was feeling sore. I guess the impact of the running around, then bumping into Grim while trying to get the ball, was beginning to show effects. I lay down on the bed, checked my phone for messages, then set an alarm and fell asleep in the blink of an eye. I was that tired. I woke up to the sound of the alarm beeping loudly and groaned, burying my head deeper into the pillow. I wanted to sleep some more but couldn't afford to. The match was in an hour and I needed to do more training. I was about to roll off the bed when I heard a knock on the door and rolled my eyes lazily, my head suddenly hurting. "God! Who could that be?" I wanted to yell but struggled to get up, despite feeling my legs wobbling. I dragged myself to the door, my vision, blurry, my hands feeling too heavy to open the door as I yawned. Why was I feeling this weak? Was I that tired? "Why aren't you dressed? Are you truly forfeiting?" Magnus yelled, and my blood ran cold at his words, especially when I saw Jaxton shaking his head sideways. His golden eyes flashed with disappointment. The alarm was still ringing, so I dashed back inside to pick up my phone, only to see that it was an hour after the match.
