"You said this idea would work!" I yelled, taking a seat on the chair.
"I never said it would. I said that by doing this, we would know one thing," Khalid shrugged.
"Oh yeah! And what would that be?" I snapped, rubbing my forehead.
"You are the most idiotic and stupidest person I've ever met on this earth," Christian groaned.
"This idea explains to us that she still cares about you by showing up," Khalid explained.
"Oh! She showed up all right. But you forgot about the part where she smacked me across the face!" I spoke as I touched my cheek on the spot, where she smacked me hard.
"She what!" Khalid asked, looking surprised.
"She slapped you?" Chris laughed.
"This is the second time she has smacked me," I grumbled, winching a little, still feeling the sting on my face.
"How many times have you been smacked by a lady?" Chris asked.
"Twice, I believe," I shrugged, flinched, imagining the slap.
"No, make that three times," Khalid, laughed.
"I don't remember getting smack three times. I only remember getting slapped twice," I corrected him.
"Remember the time when we were in middle school? We were playing a video game in my room. We got bored playing that game, so I gave you a dare to put a spider on Antonia's hair. You took the dare and-" He started to laugh so hard that he could not finish his sentence.
"Oh yeah! Then I put the spider on her hair. She got mad and started to beat the crap out of me. Even though she had small fists, her punches were dangerous. I still remember the pain. It the end, she smacked me across the face and said. I quote, 'you don't mess with a girl's hair!'" I laughed, remembering the olden days.
"Damn Khan! You got smacked by the same girl three times," Chris sniggered.
"That's a world record," Khalid added.
"We should make a record book, titling it 'Mr. Khan's Record Book of Smacks.' The first page should be, 'Got smacked three times by the same girl!" Chris chuckled.
"Very funny," I mocked.
The phone interrupted our conversation, and I answered the call, "sir, I have a report on Mrs. Khan."
"Go ahead," I urged him.
"Sir, she was taken to the hospital just now," he informed.
"What?" I stood up from my seat, "Are you sure?"
"Yes, sir. I am 100% sure," he answered.
"What hospital is Antonia in?" I asked, grabbing my jacket and putting it around me.
"She is at the Hospital of Montpellier." He replied.
"I'm on my way. Follow them and keep me updated," I ordered. I hung up the phone and walked out of the room. The boys followed me.
"What's wrong? Who was that? Is everything alright?" Khalid interrogated.
"That was my bodyguard Jack, which I told to keep an eye on Antonia and Omar. It's Antonia, she was taken to the hospital just now," I replied, getting in the elevator, "I'll meet you two in the hospital." I got in the car and drove away. My phone rang. Looking at the caller ID, I saw it was Jack.
"Go ahead," I ordered.
"They said she locked herself in her office bathroom. They are not sure, but they think she was crying for some reason, and she won't say anything," Jack reported.
"What else?" I asked, feeling anger at myself. I knew why she did that. It was because of me. I should not have done it! Stupid! How could I do that?
"When a woman named Emily got her husband Jacob to open the door, Ma'am wasn't breathing at all. They took her to the emergency room. Another thing is that her lungs were not working. She is in room 300B," he replied.
"Anything else?" I questioned.
"The doctors don't know what caused one of her lungs to stop working. They are still working on it. They put her on observation," he declared.
"Good job on finding the info. See if you can find anything by the time I get there," I said.
"Thank you. On it, boss," he informed.
I got to the destination and got out of the car. I headed the hospital. I ran to her room. Why does this have to happen to her? Why Allah? Why? Opening the door to her room, my breath got caught in my throat. Seeing her with an oxygen mask tears my heart apart.
Why couldn't I be the one in her spot?
She looks so peaceful. No sadness is written on her face. No cries. Nothing. She just looks like a friendly human being. I slowly walked to her. I sat on the chair, as my heart raced up, I grabbed her hand, giving it a little squeeze. I ran my hand through her beautiful brown hair, which felt soft against my hand.
"Hey," I whispered in her ear. "I know you can hear me, baby. I know you are a strong girl. My strong girl. You are my Kitten, my lioness. I have heard they say that people come into our lives for a reason, bringing something, we must learn. We are led to those who help us most to grow if we let them and we help them in return. You cannot do this to Omar or me. You have to wake up. Whether I am feeling down for any number of reasons, we all need someone in our life. I need you just as you need me. It takes only a minute to get a crush on someone, an hour to like someone, and a day to love someone, but it takes a lifetime to forget someone. I can never forget about you, my Cupcake. Please wake up. You cannot leave Omar or me! I love you too much to let you go. You can't leave yet. We have so much to do together. We have too much to do together." I cried, squeezing my hands.
Looking at her monitor, I saw it go up. It meant she could hear me. She was waking up.
"I know you're fighting in there," I cried at her stomach. Pulling my head away, I looked at her.
I cannot live on this earth without her. Antonia is my light that brightens up my day. She is the laughter that makes my day the best in this vast world. She the most amazing thing ever happened to me. I could never regret marrying her. Ever. I had the choice, but I did not. I was a coward. I was afraid of losing her for good. I felt terrorized back then.
"Look at me-- crying like a schoolgirl," I laughed softly.
I put my head on her stomach, as I could not control the tears coming down my face. I felt her fingers moved against mine. I quickly got up and smiled with joy. I watch as she opens her eyes slowly. All came crashing down when she started to breathe fast, and her eyes quickly widened; Antonia turned toward me.
She opened her masked and whispered, "Walid. Babe."
"I am right here, Cupcake. Right here. Put the mask back on," I said, putting it back on for her. I pressed the nurse button. The Nurse came in quickly.
"Mr. Khan, what are you doing here?" she asked, looking surprised.
"Listen. Do something. Antonia is breathing hard. One more thing, tell anyone that I was here; I will have your job on the line. Got it! Go quickly and call the damn doctor," I ordered.
"Yes, Mr. Khan. Right away," she nodded her head before rushing out the door.
I watched her run out of the room. I started to walk away, swaying from Antonia's bed, but her hand-grabbed mine. I turned around to see her head move to beg me not to leave as she breathed fast. "I can't stay, Cupcake. I will come back to you. I promise,"
I kissed Antonia's head for a long time, enjoying the moment. I opened the door and took a quick glance at her. I smiled sadly. I wish I could stay. Nevertheless, I know I could not. Omar is here. Besides, if he saw me, then it would be a big mass. Seeing Omar coming out of her room, I knew Omar saw me. However, he did not see my face. Which was a good thing!
"Hey! You! Stop right there," he yelled.
Yeah, like, I am going to stop.
I walked quickly, feeling him chase me. Stepping inside the elevator, I nodded my head toward Jack. He pressed the button for the first floor. I got to the bottom floor. I ran out of the building and got in my car. Looking through the car mirror, I saw him punch the bench, I chuckled. That kid does not know when to give up does he.
He got the anger in him just like me, I see.
"Delete all the camera video of me going to the hospital. And do it fast," I ordered to my bodyguard, Jack, who was right next to me.
"Yes, sir," he said.
I am going to come back for you, Kitten. I will be there. See you tonight.
