"Mr. Blackwell, there's a board meeting in ten minutes, your attendance is required."
The email notification popped up on my screen, and I stared at it for a long moment before closing my laptop.
I'd been sitting at my desk for the last hour, replaying everything that happened this morning.

The way she looked at me across that lobby with panic in her eyes, before turning and walking away. All I wanted to do was grab her and tell her everything would be okay.
I stood up, grabbed my jacket, and headed for the elevator.
I already knew what this meeting was about.
When I stepped into the boardroom on Elena's floor, five board members were seated around the table. No one was smiling.
