Putting up the crime scene photos Heart remarked, “She’s not pretty enough for suicide anyway.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Pollard asked, walking the fine line between not-yet-irritated and not-taking-any-crap-today. DC Kate Pollard had a temper.
“I didn’t mean it like an offense or anything. But it’s not the way women do it, is it. They like to get dolled up for suicide, they want to be pretty when the police finds them.”
