They led me to a car and drove in silence for 3 hours into the woods. We slowed down outside of a large gate. The gate guards let us through and we pulled up to an abandoned-looking church. The car stopped and the 4 guys all got out of the car and one of them reached in and pulled me out. I try to pull my arm back and the guy looks in to say something. Due to the pain in my arm from just getting beat up the night before I looked at him and my blue eyes flashed neon purple the guy let go and jumped back confused. I get out and look up at the building. The outside was covered in vines and looked like it was abandoned. I walked to the door where Collin and Jace stood by the doors. When the doors opened you could see the soft yellow glow of either lamps or candles. The building looked nothing like a church, it was like a mansion.
“What is this place?” I quietly ask, looking around.
“This is our headquarters,” Jace whispered in my ear, making me jump.
"INTRUDER! INTRUDER! INTRUDER!” An alarm sounds. I cover my ears, being a shifter gives you excellent hearing. Everyone rushes around.
“A man got in before the gates closed. Must have followed us. He must want her.” Someone I can’t see yells from the second floor.
“He is in all black! He is now missing! We have no eyes on this mystery man!!” Someone yells from the other room.
“GET A VISUAL ON HIM NOW!” Collin grabs my arm and pulls me into the next room that is full of computers and I see they are searching cameras, “WHO IS THIS MAN?!” Collin yelled at me.
“I have no idea I didn’t see him. What does he look like?” I asked, already bored with all the excitement.
“Tall and wearing all black. He has one bright blue eye and one neon purple eye.” One of the guards said and I got stiff.
“Lock down your building now! He can’t get in here!” I plead looking at Collin and then looking at Jace, “Please.” I plead again.
“Lockdown! Don’t let him in.” Jace yells walking towards the door we entered yelling out orders.
“Who is it?” Collin asked, glaring at me. I look at him and sigh.
“That is the Greek God of Nature’s son Pan,” I said watching his eyes get wide.
“Pan, the Horned God?” I slowly nod, “Why would he be here?” I shrug trying to keep my one secret.
“Sir!” Someone ran into the room and everyone looked towards us, “The man is missing. He isn’t on any of the security cameras!” Collin groans and grits his teeth trying to run out of the room.
“JACE! WATCH HER! DON’T LET HER LEAVE!” Collin yells as he runs out. Jace looked at me and narrowed his eyes. I look around, watching the windows and other entryways. The power kicked off and suddenly I had a hand grab my arm and when I turned I saw Jace looking at me worried.
“Stay with me and you will be safe,” Jace says as I lean more into him. Suddenly alarms started going off in the building, “He must be in here. Why would Pan the Horned God be coming here?” Jace whispers looking around the room.
“Anya... he needs to speak to you. You can’t hide. He knows where you are, it’s just a matter of time.”We hear a voice over the speakers. Jace looks down at me for a moment and then around the cathedral-like room.
Soon Collin comes running in looking around. He sees Jace holding me and I can only imagine what he’s thinking. I am sure Jace doesn’t understand what a mate bond is. “Good Job Jace. Trying to escape isn’t going to work for you little lady.” When we realized Collin was back Jace took a small step back but kept his hand on my arm. “Who was that on the intercom? What did he mean?”
“Well since you think I’m a criminal then shouldn’t I get a phone call and be placed in an interrogation room?” I asked, being sarcastic and rolling my eyes. I could see that bothered Collin and a small vein started to pop from his forehead. Jace’s grip tightened a bit and Collin approached me quickly.
“We can have it arranged that you’re treated like a criminal, but only if you want that,” Collin says inches away from me. He turns to Jace, “Take her to one of the rooms.”
Jace walks me down a long corridor and turns into a room that wasn’t very well-lit. The walls were white and there was a table with 2 chairs in it. Jace sits me down on one side of the table and he sits on the other and drums his fingers on the table. “Really? No phone call? Will I be here for long? Should I call off my shift tomorrow?” Jace sighs and looks down.
“I have no idea, Anastasia-”
“Anya, please. Anastasia is too formal and just reminds me that I’m different.” I say placing my chin in my hand and sighing.
“I like ‘Anastasia’. It’s not that different, there’s loads of people with that name.” Jace says adjusting how he’s sitting. I roll my eyes because if he knew why that was my name he would hate it too. Soon Collin storms in with another chair and tosses it to Jace.
“We will need you to answer a few questions, Anastasia,” Collin says glaring at me and pulling out a small audio recorder. “State your full name.”
“Anastasia Iris Katerina Basilia.” I say rolling my eyes at my name. I always hated my name. My father named me and he is Greek so I have a very Greek name.
“What is your supernatural makeup?” Collin asked again, looking at my charts from the hospital.
“I am a Dragon/Serpent Shifter and a Sorceress. Which means I am a better magic wielder than you witches.” I say leaning back in the chair.
“It says ‘other’. What does that mean?” Collin asked looking up at me like he had been as nice as possible this whole time. Now I’m getting annoyed.
“That would be the mix of shifters,” I say lying through my teeth.
“No, it’s listed Dragon and Serpent in your medical charts. Then it says ‘Magic: Other’ and being a higher magic being will do that but then it says ‘Other’” Collin said reading my charts to me.
“My father had a little bit more than Serpent but he bailed on me when I was a baby so I have no idea since he wasn’t around,” I say kind of lying again. My father did bail and wasn’t around but I knew what I was. My father made sure that I knew what I was.
