CHAPTER TWO

JOURNEY NOT SO ALONE Xena’s POV “Please, father,” I begged, my voice shaking. “Do not do this. I am still your daughter. Please do not disown me,” I looked up at my father, pleading with my eyes. I knew I had made a mistake, and I was willing to do anything to make it right. But my father remained unmoved. “It's done,” he said, his face like stone. “You must leave now,” “Give me one more chance, father. I am carrying your offspring,” I sobbed He glared at me. “My offspring? How dare you?! How dare you link me with that bastard of a pup in your stomach?! How dare you, Xena?!” He yelled at me I held up my hand in my mouth, crying silently. Everyone around cursed me, some threw things at me while some called my unborn child some dirty names, making my heart break more and more into a million pieces. I turned to my mother, pleading for her intervention with my eyes. “Mother, please. I need you right now,” I implored. She batted her eyes multiple times, forcing back her tears. It was obvious that there was nothing she could do. My father was the type of Alpha who does not like being counted. He liked his judgments passed and obeyed without any buts or interference. “I am sorry, Xena. Please, go,” she said softly, sobbing. I felt the tears well up in my eyes, streaming down my cheeks, and I knew there was nothing more I could do. I rose from the floor, turned and began to walk away, my heart breaking with each step I took. I wandered tirelessly and aimlessly headed to no destination. All I knew was that I was in the woods and I was going to start living here from onset. I gritted my teeth at the sudden flashbacks of the comfort of my home. The love and care they showered on me from the very day I found out that I existed. But all that had all gone away. I never believed that everything good one does would be forgotten as soon as he or she commits something bad. That was my case. It was just it. “I love you, Xena. And I will never do anything to hurt you,” I suddenly heard Alpha Brent’s voice and it gave me goosebumps. I tried to block out the voices in my head, but it was no use. I could hear them, clear as day. “I will always be there for you,” Alpha Brent's voice said, sounding sweet and soothing. “You will never be alone,” I screamed, my hands over my ears, but the voices wouldn't stop. “You are mine,” Alpha Brent's voice continued, his words poking my soul. “I will never let you go,” I felt my whole body shaking, and I sank to the ground, my eyes shut tight. I couldn't take it anymore. I had to get away. Without thinking, I started to run, my feet pounding the ground as I fled from the voices while holding up my stomach. Nothing must happen to my unborn child. I did not know where I was going, I just wanted to get away. I heard the sound of his voice once more, calling my name, but I didn't stop. I just kept running as my breath kept coming in gasps. And then, I fell, my feet slipping on the muddy ground. I hit the ground hard, and my breath was knocked out of me instantly. I lay there, my body aching, and for a moment, everything went black. I opened my eyes, and I was greeted by darkness. I blinked, trying to make sense of my surroundings. I held my stomach, trying to feel my child. I was lying on the ground, and I could feel the dirt and dampness beneath me. I sat up slowly, my head pounding. And then I saw it - a small, flickering light in the corner of the cave. I stumbled towards it, my body weak and shaky. As I got closer, I saw that it was a fire, burning low in a stone hearth. I collapsed next to it, my eyes closing as I felt the warmth of the flames on my skin. While I lay there, my thoughts began to clear. I realized that I was in a cave, but I had no idea how I got there. The last thing I remembered was running through the woods with my feet pounding on the ground. And then, nothing. I had no idea how much time had passed, or where I was. I felt a wave of panic wash over me, and I struggled to keep my breathing under control. I closed my eyes, trying to steady myself. And then, I heard it - the sound of footsteps approaching. “Don't be afraid,” the woman's voice said, soft and reassuring. “You're safe here,” I squinted my eyes, and I saw her. She was a beautiful woman, with long, dark hair and piercing green eyes. She was dressed in a simple, but elegant dress, and she smiled at me warmly. I felt myself relax, the fear that had been gripping me slowly fading away. “Who are you?” I asked, my voice still a little shaky. “My name is Elyse,” the woman said, her voice gentle. “What happened to me?” I asked, my mind still a little fuzzy. “I don't know for sure,” Elyse said. “But it seems like you've had quite an ordeal. Can you tell me what you remember?” I took a deep breath, trying to piece together the events of the past few hours. “I was in the woods,” I said. “And I heard voices - angry voices. I was scared, and I started to run. And then I must have blacked out,” Elyse nodded, listening to me intently. “Do you know where you are?” she asked. I shook my head. “No,” I said, my voice a little shaky. “I don't know anything,” Elyse's expression softened, and she reached out to touch my arm. “You're safe here,” she said, her voice soothing. “You can stay with me until you feel better and ready to go,” “Go home?” I scoffed. “Yes, home,” she replied expectantly. “I do not have a home,” I said “What do you mean?” She queried, tucking her hair behind her ear. “I was banished and disowned by my Father…” “Alpha Damon for getting Pregnant,” we said in unison. My eyes widened in astonishment. How come she knows that? I mumbled to myself. “Xena, you should get some rest especially for the sake of your baby,” she responded. Xena? “How do you know my name?” I asked surprisingly “Get some rest. We will discuss later,” she replied, walking away. I tried to relax, but I couldn't shake the feeling that something was fishy. There was something about Elyse that I couldn't put my finger on. I had so many questions - who was she? How did she know my name? And why did I suddenly feel so safe with her, even though I didn't know her? I tried to put those thoughts aside, as I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep again.
