CHAPTER 10

"Now, do you finally have any idea who you just insulted?" Mr. Avila's voice remained calm, but the weight behind his words made the couple flinch. Jerry’s face paled. "This... this can't be..." he stammered. "Apologize right this instant, you i***t!" his brother barked through the phone. Jerry's face flushed crimson, not just from embarrassment but from the sheer humiliation of being put in his place so publicly. Yet, even with his brother's demand, he stubbornly kept his mouth shut. Vincentius's voice cut through the tension from the phone. "Clara, what do you want to do with them?" I glanced at the couple in front of me. Frankly, they weren’t worth any more of my time. I just wanted this to be over. So, I turned to Mr. Avila before responding to my brother. "I’d like the manager to decide the best course of action." At my words, Mr. Avila visibly straightened, his posture tensing. I might have said it casually, but he understood the weight behind my response—it was a test of his judgment. Without hesitation, he turned to the couple. "Security!" Two uniformed guards immediately stepped forward. "Escort them out. Ensure their names are blacklisted from all Montemayor establishments." Panic instantly set in to the couples face. The woman gasped. "Wait, what? You can’t! This is a mistake!" she shrieked, yanking her arm away from the guard’s grip. "You can’t do this!" "Mr. Vincentius Montemayor, please, this is a misunderstanding!" "Yeah, we didn’t know—" Jerry, desperate, turned back to his phone. "Brother, please help me!" But before Vincentius could hear another word from them, I turned off the loudspeaker and lifted the phone to my ear. "Thank you, brother." "No worries," he said smoothly. "Make sure to settle in properly. Mr. Avila is the assistant I assigned to you for the time being, so if you need anything, ask him directly. He’ll handle everything for you." "Alright," I murmured. "Also," Vincentius added, "I’ve sent him your bank cards and anything else you might need. So make sure you get them from him” "Got it." And with that, I ended the call before looking at the couple who have been dragged out of the hotel As soon as the couple was dragged out of the hotel, Lily let out a quiet laugh beside me. "That was satisfying," she murmured. I hummed in agreement. "Very." The commotion had finally settled, leaving behind a hushed murmur from onlookers who had witnessed the entire ordeal. Just as I was about to turn away, Manager Avila stepped forward and bowed slightly in apology. "Miss Montemayor, I sincerely apologize for the disturbance." I studied him for a moment before speaking. "The manager could have settled it the moment he stepped forward, yet he let the ruckus drag on unnecessarily. Why is that?" He straightened slightly but kept his head low in respect. "About that, Miss, I truly apologize. Your brother, Mr. Vincentius Montemayor, instructed me to ensure your identity was made clear during your stay. I thought this situation presented the perfect opportunity to do so." Lily let out a low whistle. "Wow. That was a bit cringe as an introduction….but also kinda cool at the same time." I sighed, shaking my head slightly. "Next time, just handle things efficiently." Manager Avila immediately nodded. "Understood, Miss Montemayor." "And regarding your stay, Miss," Manager Avila continued, "We have already prepared the top floor of the hotel exclusively for your use. As you know, that level is reserved only for the Montemayor family." I nodded, unsurprised. "That will do." Lily nudged me excitedly. "So, does that mean we get the VIP treatment now?" Manager Avila offered a polite smile. "Of course. The young Misses will have access to all hotel services at your convenience. If there’s anything else you need, just let me know." I turned to Lily, who was grinning like she had just won the lottery. "You hear that?" She said, "We’re basically royalty now." I rolled my eyes but couldn’t help the slight smirk on my lips. "Don’t let it get to your head." She gasped dramatically. "Too late." Manager Avila cleared his throat. "Shall I escort you to your suite now?" I gave a small nod. "Lead the way." As we followed him toward the private elevator, I glanced around, noticing how the staff and guests had become noticeably more cautious in their gazes. The weight of my surname had settled in, and from now on, everyone in this place knew exactly who I was. I exhaled quietly. I had never cared much for the theatrics of my family’s power, but I understood its necessity. The elevator doors slid open, and as we stepped inside, Lily leaned in and whispered, "You seriously have so much explaining to do. Seriously, I didn't know that my best friend is this kind of vip!” I shook my head, amused. This was going to be a long explanation I have to do, “Fine, fine.” Lily grinned, excitement is really written all over her face As soon as we reached the top floor, Manager Avila led the way, using a key card to unlock the suite. The door clicked open, and as it swung wide, Lily and I were greeted by an extravagant sight. The penthouse was massive—far more spacious than I had anticipated. The open floor plan connected the living room, kitchen, and dining area seamlessly. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows lined the walls, offering a breathtaking panoramic view of the city. Through the glass doors, a private pool area stretched out, shimmering under the warm glow of ambient lighting. Lily exclaimed "Holy—Clara, are you seeing this?!" I stepped inside, taking in the luxurious yet minimalistic design. Everything was carefully curated—modern furniture, elegant chandeliers, and marble flooring that reflected the soft glow of recessed lighting. Manager Avila gestured toward the space. "This entire floor has been prepared for your stay, Miss Montemayor. The suite includes multiple bedrooms, a study, a game room, a small movie room, a private gym, and, of course, the pool area." Lily immediately rushed toward the glass doors, pressing her hands against them as she stared at the pool. "A freaking rooftop pool? Are you kidding me?!" She turned back to me, eyes sparkling. "Bestie, we are living the dream!” I chuckled at her enthusiasm before turning to Manager Avila. "Everything seems in order." He nodded. "If the young lady requires anything, I will be available at all times. Your belongings have already been brought up, and the essentials that Mr. Vincentius sent are in the master suite. Should you need anything else, please don’t hesitate to call me” I gave him a small nod. "Understood, thank you” With a final bow, Manager Avila excused himself, leaving Lily and me alone in the penthouse. The moment the door shut, Lily spun on her heels, crossing her arms as she gave me a pointed look. "Alright, spill. Who are you?" I hesitated, looking away. It wasn’t like I had deliberately kept it a secret from her. I just…. never really talked about it. “Hey, don’t you dare hide anything from me. There’s no point in keeping secrets, Clara. Ever since your brother sent those luxury cars to get us, I’ve been wondering if it was just him who was rich. But looking at everything now, I know there’s more to your identity than you’ve let on.” I sighed, making my way toward the plush couch and sinking into it. "Well….aside from what you already know, my family doesn’t just own this hotel. The Montemayors have their hands in almost every industry—real estate, finance, media, even international trade. If there’s a business worth investing in, chances are, my family is involved in it." Lily frowned slightly, processing my words, but the moment I said Montemayor, her eyes widened in realization. She suddenly smacked her forehead and exclaimed, "Oh my god!" I blinked. "What?" She pointed at me, then dramatically gasped. "That’s right! The manager earlier—he said Vincentius Montemayor! But with all the chaos happening, I completely forgot about it! Holy crap, Clara!, your brother is that Vincentius Montemayor?!" I sighed, rubbing my temple. "Yeah." Lily gaped at me. "You do realize he’s basically a legend in the business world, right?! There are entire business courses that use his strategies as case studies. People say he’s ruthless in negotiations but also a genius! And you are his sister?!" I rolled my eyes. "Please don’t make a big deal out of it." "A big deal? Clara, your family is practically royalty in the corporate world! Do you understand how insane this is?!" I gave her a flat look. "Yes, Lily, I’m aware. It’s my family, after all." She groaned, throwing herself onto the couch beside me. "Unbelievable. My best friend is a Montemayor, and I only just found out!" Then, as if hit by another realization, she groaned again and smacked her forehead. "Ugh! I’m so dumb!" I raised an eyebrow. "What now?" She covered her face with her hands. "Clara, your last name is literally Montemayor! How did I not connect the dots sooner?! The moment you mentioned your brother’s name and those luxury cars, I knew you came from money, but I never even considered that you were that frantically connected to the Montemayors—the wealthiest family in the country!" I smirked. "Sounds like a you problem." She shot me a glare before huffing dramatically. "Okay, okay, let me process this. So, your family owns this hotel. Your brother is Vincentius Montemayor—aka the Vincentius Montemayor. Your family is that Montemayor, the wealthiest family in the country. And you….what? Just walked away from all of that?" I nodded. "Four years ago." Lily let out a long, exaggerated groan. "Damn. I mean, I get you wanting to live your own life, but leaving behind this level of wealth and influence? That takes some serious guts." I leaned back against the couch, gazing at the ceiling. "It wasn’t an easy decision, but I wanted to prove I could stand on my own. I didn’t want to just be ‘Vincentius Montemayor’s sister’ or ‘another Montemayor heir.’ I wanted to be me—Clara. Just Clara." Lily studied me for a moment before shaking her head with a laugh. "You are so frustrating. If I had this kind of power, I’d be making dramatic grand entrances everywhere." I smirked. "That’s exactly why you don’t have it." Lily gasped, clutching her chest in mock offense. "Rude." I let out a soft chuckle, gazing at the skyline through the windows. This was my reality—one I had never asked for and tried to walk away from it and now I came back to live with it again. Lily nudged me. "Still, this place is insane! And to think, my best friend is this rich! I bet Tyler and his whole gang would puke with envy and regret if they ever found out." I arched an eyebrow. "Lucky for me, they won’t find out just yet. Not now.” Lily grinned mischievously. "And lucky for me—now that I do know—I’m absolutely taking advantage of this VIP treatment." I threw a pillow at her, laughing. "You’re impossible." She cackled, dodging it effortlessly. "And you are ridiculously rich. I think we balance each other out quite nicely!"
