I felt really ashamed to show up at my workplace. If I could just take an absence today, I would, but I can’t because I’m his secretary and I need money. I didn’t have anyone to support me, so I really needed to work hard.
I don’t want to go back to that place again. I need this to survive.
I took a deep breath and sighed. My hands were shaking as I held the door, I was feeling so nervous. I sighed again and opened the door of his office.
“You’re five minutes late.”
I was greeted by the coldness of his voice. I swallowed hard before I composed myself, trying to hide my nervousness. He was still busy with his paperwork. He didn’t even throw a glance at me.
“I’m sorry, Sir. I was having a hard time walking.” I tried to steady my voice and held it confidently.
He suddenly stopped and lifted his face. He finally met my eyes. His stare was indifferent and cold, it was so different from that night he held me. He looked at me from head to toe.
“Are you just gonna stand there?” His forehead creased as he raised his brow at me. “By the way, don’t bring me coffee.”
My forehead creased. “Why, Sir?”
This is the first time that he doesn’t want coffee.
“Stop asking and just do your work,” he said firmly without looking at me.
I hurriedly headed to my office, which was just beside him, and started working. He’s always been strict when it comes to work. Failures and mistakes have no room in this company.
I was typing swiftly on my keyboard, glancing occasionally at the calendar displayed on my screen. I hung up and quickly switched my attention to a stack of documents on my desk. I reviewed a report, making a few notes in the margins.
I picked up the intercom and pressed the button that was connected to my boss’s office. “Good morning, Sir. Your 9 o’clock call with the marketing team is in five minutes. I’ve also arranged for the contract review meeting to be in the conference room at 11.”
I just heard him hum, it was already expected. I’m used to that response when it comes to this. I saw the time on my computer that it was 10 A.M. already. I fixed my things and stood up.
I guess my legs somehow felt better, and the søreness lessened. Well, maybe because I was just sitting for how many hours, I didn’t even hear my boss calling for me.
I stepped outside and headed to his office. I saw him wearing his coat and fixing his necktie. I couldn’t help but bite my lower lip because of how hot he was.
He glanced at me making me look away from him. “Are you okay now?”
I turned back my gaze at him. “Sir? What do you mean?” I asked full of confusion.
“Can you walk properly?” His voice was serious and he looked at me with his strict gaze.
I felt my blood rushing through my cheeks upon realizing what he meant. I cleared my throat and nodded my head.
We were now waiting for the elevator to open. He was just an inch apart from my side; I could smell his manly perfume. We stepped inside when the elevator opened. I punched the floor we were heading for the meeting.
There was an uncomfortable silence inside the elevator. I was silently praying that the elevator would open now. The tension in the air was too much for me to handle.
“You will accompany me tonight at the party.”
I heard his deep voice before the elevator opened. I sighed in relief.
“Yes, Sir.”
The conference room was sleek and professional, with a long glass table surrounded by high-backed chairs. A large screen at one end of the room displays the title “Contract Review Meeting” along with the date. The room is filled with a low hum of conversation as attendees settle into their seats.
I stood near the door with a clipboard in my hand. I was ready to facilitate the meeting. I saw my boss looking at me in disapproval, he shook his head and mentioned the seat beside him. I automatically got what he meant.
I sat beside him uncomfortably as the meeting started.
“Miss. Andromeda, could you tell us of the key changes from the previous version?” someone from the legal department asked.
I nodded my head and smiled. I looked at them straight face and chin up. “The main updates include revised payment terms, a new clause on confidentiality, and adjustments to the delivery schedule. The detailed summary is at the end of your packet.”
The discussion goes on. I was attentively listening to them, I didn’t want to miss any words from them.
As the meeting ended, we exited from the conference room and got back to our work. I got so busy again that I didn’t notice that it was already dark outside. I stretched my arms and stood up. I fixed my things before I stepped outside my office.
I entered his office, he was busy signing some papers. I sighed. “I’ll head first, Sir... Goodbye!”
He just nodded his head without glancing at me. I was now outside the building and waiting for a taxi. I looked at my wristwatch and saw that it was 7 P.M. already. Minutes passed, and I still hadn’t seen a taxi.
I took a deep breath and sighed, I tried to calm myself. It was a good thing that there was a streetlight here. Someone’s car stopped in front of me. The window opened, revealing my boss. I gasped seeing him. I couldn’t believe that he was in front of me right now. I thought he’d stay for too long at his office.
“Get in.”
I was back to my senses when I heard his firm voice. I immediately slid myself in the passenger seat. We fell into deep silence. I just focused my sight on the road, stopping myself to look at his side.
“The dress you’ll wear at the party will be sent later to your apartment.” His voice was casual as he said it. His eyes were focused on the road.
I nodded my head. “Thank you, Sir.”
