9 The reflection in the small bathroom mirror begged for a touch more lipstick. Dani pressed her lips together and then smiled. “Well, I don’t look like a clown.” The doorbell interrupted her self-assessment. “Coming,” she called out. She paused, smoothed down the front of her dress, and then turned the doorknob when she paused again. “Who is it?” “Paul.” Dani swung the door wide and smiled. “Well, don’t you look handsome.” Paul beamed. “I wanted to look nice for tonight, with Pad and Ellie.” His eyes roamed. A slight shiver zipped over her skin. Dani had swept her hair up, leaving the graceful curve of her neck exposed. She wore a short, deep navy dress with short sleeves. “You look gorgeous. The sparkly stuff makes you look like you’re twinkling.” Dani tried to peek around Paul.
