The first rays of sun were creeping over the horizon when Paul pulled into Ellie’s driveway. He had a restless night, but his energy level was in overdrive, and his thoughts were clear. Pad loaded a cooler in the back of his SUV along with a duffel bag. Ellie finished locking the door and approached Paul’s window.
“Hey, guys. Are you ready to hit the road?”
Pad nodded. “Change of plans, we’re meeting Judy and Walker at What’s Perkin’. Cari called last night and asked us to stop in.”
“Mom’s sending us off with food. I’ll give you guys a minute to talk.”
“She’s pretty intuitive.”
Pad snorted. “You have no idea.”
“You’ll have to tell me sometime.” Paul looked down the street. “I’ve checked the route to the local police, and we should be there before nine.”
