Jane sat on the toilet floor crying her eyes out.
Her boyfriend had just broken up with her on their anniversary.
He had asked her out to dinner in a fancy restaurant.
She was so excited.
What better way to spend their anniversary than in a romantic restaurant?
Even though he hadn’t spoken to her all morning and didn’t answer her calls, Jane thought he had a big surprise for her.
She put on her best attire for the date.
A red long gown, styled with a silver colored bag with matching earrings underneath she wore the only heel she ever owned.
It was their sixth anniversary, six years of her being with the love of her life, her soulmate, Edward Higgins.
They had been together since their freshman year in university and she always visioned them getting married, having children and growing old together.
One could only imagine the shock, she received when he ended the relationship.
“I’m breaking up with you Jane, You’re boring and I can’t be with you anymore”, Edward had told her after they had rounded up the costly steak they ordered.
Jane looked at him, her eyes blinked continuously.
She wasn’t sure she heard well.
Did he say he was breaking up with her because she was boring?
Was he dumping her on their anniversary day?
What of the big surprise she thought he had planned?
“I don’t understand?” she asked looking straight at him as she moved her hand across the table to hold his but he pulled his hand back and looked the other way.
Eddie had been the only guy she had ever been with, he was her first love, the guy who took away her virginity.
She had never been with anyone else. The thought of being with anyone other than Edward never crossed her mind.
She remembered when he asked her out after their tenth reading session in the library.
Yes she was counting.
She remembered sitting there beside him their legs touching when he passed her a small note, written on it was the cutest thing she had seen :
‘Will you be my girlfriend?’,
.......with a heart shape beside it.
Her heart raced as she wrote ‘Yes’ back, he smiled at the response and kissed her.
And ever since then she had always loved him, even though sometimes he treated her wrongly.
All the time she travelled all the way from Iowa to California to visit him during college break but he never came to visit her once.
........Or how she caught him cheating a number of times, but forgave him every time because of how much she loved him.
She remembered moving all the way to New York after college because of him.
He had just being given an internship in a big law firm, he begged her to move to the Big Apple with him, even though she was comfortable where she was and had even gotten her dream job.
Jane left it all for him.
....And now he’s breaking up with her because she was boring?
“You’re plain, Jane, you’re so uptight, you dress like someone twice your age”, Eddie continued after gulping down his glass of wine on his table.
He sat back on the chair as he signaled the waiter to bring their bill while trying to avert eye contact with her.
Edward didn’t want to see her cry because of him, he loved Jane, he loved how smart she was and how much she cared about him.
How she forgave him every time he made a mistake and how she always stood by him during the high and lows of his life.
She was there when he lost his first job, she held his hand when his mother and she celebrated with him when he got promoted.
But he just couldn’t be with her anymore. She wasn’t exciting or fun.
She wore thick glasses, always tied her in a bun and always wore oversized plaid clothes.
He couldn’t continue the relationship anymore.
He felt like he was suffocating.
He was getting tired of their usual routines and wanted to try something new or the new lady that lived opposite their apartment.
He wasn’t sure, all he knew was he didn’t date Jane anymore.
He knew he hurt her but it was for the best.
He was doing her a favour. He hated their relationship and was tired of cheating on her behind her back.
“But we have something special .... I thought you loved me” she stammered trying to hold back the tears building up in her eyes.
She picked up the napkin beside her and dapped falling the tears on her cheeks.
The waiter came and handed Eddie their bill.
He removed his wallet from his pocket and paid him with an extra tip.
“I’m sorry this can’t work”, he said pitiful and left her sitting down there in the middle of the restaurant crying.
Jane head began to spin, it was as if the light in the restaurant became dim as she drowned out the noise around her.
People were staring at her, taking pictures and whispering among themselves.
She looked around everyone here was with their special someone except for her.
Her life was over, her soulmate had left her and it was all her fault.
She wasn’t good enough for him. She began to blame herself for everything that went wrong in their relationship.
‘Give me a bottle of your strongest wine”. she called out to the waiter.
She drank and drank but it wasn’t able to ease the pain in her heart.
She felt like she needed to pee after so much drinking and staggered to the restroom.
Now here she was curled up in the restroom, drawing out toilet paper from its dispenser, while she cried and blew out snot.
Her life was really pathetic.
“Excuse me ma, are you okay?”, a devastatingly sexy British voice called out from the other end of the stall.
It was a devastatingly sexy male voice.
“What was a man doing in a female restroom?”, Jane thought.
Maybe it’s one of those perverts that spy on woman.
“Go away!” she screamed, scurrying up from the floor as she tried to wipe the tears from her eyes.
“You’re are not supposed to be here”.
“You mean you aren’t”, the stranger objected opening the door demarcating them. “This is the men’s room”.
Well not only had she just been dumped she was also stupid.
She couldn’t differentiate between the men and women restrooms.
How low could she get.
The stranger rested his arm beside the door and looked at Jane, her eyes were red and puffed up.
Dried tears lay on her cheek. He couldn’t help but notice her deep blue eyes or how her blonde hair crashed over her shoulders.
Jane was a little drunk and her eyes misty but she could get little glimpses of the man standing in front of her.
He was about 6feet, three inches tall, wearing what should be an expensive suit.
His scent was sweet, yet intoxicating.
A scent that arouse something in her, something that made her want him.
........that made her body ache for him.
“Am I plain?”, Jane asked the man leaning closer to him.
She could feel his breath on her face. It smelt of mint.
Was every part of this stranger making her horny or was it the bottle of vodka she drank. She really didn’t care, she wanted to feel something.
......Anything apart from the ache she felt in her heart.
“Excuse me?”, the stranger asked taking a step back from Jane, unsure of her next move.
But Jane wasn’t ready to stop, she needed more, she needed to feel his skin on hers.
She needed his touch. She traced her fingers from his hair, to his lips and down to his chin.
While her other hand touched his chest, it was rock hard.
It felt like he spent a lot of time in the gym.
“Do I look boring to you?”.
“Ma I....” the stranger began to speak when Jane drew closer and interrupted him with a kiss.
At first the stranger hesitated then he kissed her back.
Jane’s legs couldn’t hold her after he kissed her, it was as if electric shock bolted through her body.
She fell a little but his hands steadied her and balanced on her waist.
To her the kiss was perfect, His lips were warm and inviting as he slid his tongue in and out at intervals.
She could taste the alcoholic drink he just had. It was sweet yet strong, red wine maybe.
He kissed her softly on her lips, then nibbled on her ears for some minutes and went back to her lips
Jane moaned softly,shivering a little.
She had never felt this way before. Wet was understatement of what she felt down there.
Her hands roamed around his body. His soft conditioned hair, his chiseled jaw. She could feel it all.
His touch was wild yet delicate.
He was about to take her blouse off when she bent over, threw up on his shoe,
......And blacked out.
