Chapter 5: The Forbidden Forest
The forest became darker with every step.
Luna walked beside Mia, following the strange pull of the silver mark on her shoulder.
Neither of them spoke.
Behind them was the only home Luna had ever known.
Ahead was a forest that even experienced warriors feared.
Mia finally broke the silence.
“Are you sure this is where the voice wants us to go?”
Luna nodded.
“The mark gets warmer whenever we move in this direction.”
Mia sighed.
“I really don't like this.”
“Neither do I.”
They continued walking.
The trees grew taller, their branches twisting together above them and blocking the moonlight.
Suddenly, Luna stopped.
“What is it?” Mia whispered.
Luna looked around.
“I feel like we're being watched.”
A branch snapped somewhere behind them.
Mia grabbed Luna's arm.
“Did you hear that?”
Luna nodded.
They turned around.
Nothing.
Only darkness.
Then a low growl came from between the trees.
Mia stepped backward.
“Luna…”
Three pairs of glowing eyes appeared.
Wolves.
Luna's heart began pounding.
“Stay behind me.”
The wolves slowly stepped into the moonlight.
They weren't ordinary wolves.
Their fur was completely black, and strange silver symbols covered their bodies.
Luna's mark suddenly burned.
The wolves stopped.
Then, unexpectedly, they lowered their heads.
Mia stared at them.
“Why are they bowing?”
Luna didn't know.
A voice suddenly echoed inside her mind.
Do not fear them.
Luna swallowed.
“Who are you?”
Those who guard your bloodline.
The largest wolf stepped forward.
A silver glow surrounded its body.
Then it transformed into a man.
He was tall, dressed in dark clothing, with long black hair and cold silver eyes.
Mia gasped.
Luna immediately stepped in front of her.
“Who are you?”
The stranger studied Luna carefully.
Then his eyes fell on the silver mark.
His expression changed.
“Impossible.”
“What?”
He took a slow breath.
“You truly are the Moon Queen.”
Luna's heart raced.
“I need answers.”
The stranger looked toward the deeper part of the forest.
“Then you came to the right place.”
He turned away.
“Follow me.”
Luna hesitated.
Mia whispered, “Luna, this could be a trap.”
The stranger stopped.
Without turning around, he said,
“If I wanted you dead, you would never have made it this far.”
Luna exchanged a look with Mia.
Then she followed him.
Neither woman noticed the figure watching them from a distant hill.
His eyes were dark.
His jaw tightened.
And his voice was filled with anger.
“Kael was right.”
He pulled out his phone.
“She has entered the forbidden forest.”
A pause.
Then he smiled.
“Tell Alpha Damon Nightshade.”
The Moon Queen has been found.
