Chapter 6: The Mysterious Stranger
The stranger led Luna and Mia deeper into the forest.
The silence around them felt unnatural.
No birds sang.
No insects made a sound.
Even the wind seemed afraid to enter the trees.
Luna finally stopped.
“Who are you?”
The stranger turned.
“My name is Adrian.”
“Are you a wolf?”
A faint smile appeared on his face.
“I am a guardian.”
“Guardian of what?”
He looked directly at Luna.
“Your bloodline.”
Luna's heart began to race.
“You knew my mother?”
Adrian's expression changed.
“Yes.”
Luna stepped closer.
“What happened to her?”
“She was murdered.”
Luna froze.
“My mother died of an illness.”
“That is what you were told.”
Anger flashed through Luna.
“Who killed her?”
Adrian looked toward the dark trees.
“People who feared what she knew.”
Mia moved closer to Luna.
“What did she know?”
Adrian's eyes returned to Luna.
“She knew that the Moon Queen would be born again.”
Luna touched the silver mark on her shoulder.
“Why didn't she tell me?”
“She was trying to keep you alive.”
A sudden howl echoed through the forest.
Adrian's expression became serious.
“We have to move.”
“Why?”
“Someone is coming.”
Luna heard footsteps behind them.
Then a man's voice echoed through the trees.
“Luna Rose.”
She turned sharply.
A group of armed wolves emerged from the darkness.
Adrian immediately stepped in front of Luna.
“Stay behind me.”
The leader raised his weapon.
“Give us the girl.”
Luna's heart pounded.
“Who are they?”
Adrian's eyes narrowed.
“Hunters.”
The hunters moved closer.
Then Luna's silver mark suddenly blazed with light.
The entire forest shook.
The hunters stopped.
Adrian stared at Luna in disbelief.
“You're awakening faster than I expected.”
Luna looked at her glowing hands.
“What is happening to me?”
Before Adrian could answer, a powerful voice came from behind the hunters.
“Enough.”
Everyone turned.
A tall man stepped out of the darkness.
His presence silenced the entire forest.
His eyes were cold and commanding.
Adrian's expression hardened.
“Damon.”
The stranger smiled.
“It's been a long time.”
Luna stared at him.
She had no idea who he was.
But the moment their eyes met, her wolf whispered one word.
Danger.
Damon Nightshade looked at Luna.
And smiled.
“So you're the woman everyone is willing to kill for.”
