Chapter 8: The Mark
Luna couldn't stop thinking about Damon’s words.
Kael had known.
He had known about her bloodline before the ceremony.
And yet, he had rejected her.
“Why should I believe you?” Luna asked.
Damon's eyes remained fixed on her.
“You shouldn't. Not yet.”
Luna frowned.
“Then why tell me?”
“Because the people hunting you won't stop.”
Before Luna could respond, the silver mark on her shoulder suddenly burned.
She cried out and fell to one knee.
Mia rushed toward her.
“Luna!”
Silver light spread from the crescent mark across her shoulder.
Adrian stepped back in shock.
“The mark is changing.”
“What does that mean?” Mia asked.
Adrian's voice was low.
“It means her power is awakening.”
Luna closed her eyes.
A voice filled her mind again.
The blood remembers.
She saw a silver throne.
A great wolf standing beside it.
Then she saw Kael.
He was younger, standing before his father.
His father placed a hand on his shoulder.
Never accept the girl.
The vision changed.
Kael looked toward Luna with tears in his eyes.
If you love her, let her hate you.
Luna's eyes opened suddenly.
She stared at Damon.
“I saw Kael.”
Damon's expression became serious.
“What did you see?”
Luna told him everything.
Adrian exchanged a worried glance with Damon.
Damon finally said,
“Then the truth is more complicated than I thought.”
Luna touched the silver mark.
“I need to know everything.”
Damon stepped closer.
“And I know where we can find the answers.”
“Where?”
“The old Moon Queen temple.”
A cold wind swept through the forest.
Adrian looked toward the dark sky.
“We have to leave before sunrise.”
Luna stood.
For the first time, she wasn't running from her past.
She was going to uncover it.
Even if the truth destroyed everything she once believed.
