Chapter 2: A Broken Wolf
Luna woke to the sound of someone calling her name.
“Luna… please wake up.”
Her eyes opened slowly.
Mia was sitting beside her bed, worry written across her face.
“You fainted after the ceremony,” Mia whispered.
Luna stared at the ceiling.
For a moment, she forgot everything.
Then the memory returned.
Kael.
The ceremony.
The rejection.
Her heart tightened.
“He rejected me,” Luna whispered.
Mia reached for her hand.
“I know.”
Luna turned her face away.
“I don't understand. He looked at me like he was afraid.”
Before Mia could answer, three sharp knocks came from the door.
Both women froze.
The door opened.
Alpha Kael stepped inside.
Luna immediately sat up.
“What are you doing here?”
Kael looked at Mia.
“Leave us.”
Mia hesitated.
Luna shook her head.
“No. She stays.”
Kael's expression hardened, but he didn't argue.
He looked back at Luna.
“There are things you need to know.”
Luna laughed bitterly.
“Now you want to explain? After humiliating me in front of the entire pack?”
Kael's jaw tightened.
“I didn't have a choice.”
“You always have a choice.”
For several seconds, neither spoke.
Finally, Kael lowered his voice.
“Your mother knew my father.”
Luna froze.
“What?”
“Before she died, she came to my father. They spoke about something that was supposed to remain a secret.”
Luna stared at him.
“My mother never told me anything.”
“Because she was protecting you.”
“Protecting me from what?”
Kael stepped closer.
Before he could answer, Luna suddenly cried out.
Pain shot through her shoulder.
The silver mark began to glow.
Mia jumped to her feet.
“Luna!”
The mysterious voice returned inside Luna's mind.
Find the old forest before the blood moon.
Luna grabbed her shoulder.
“What do you want from me?”
Kael stared at the glowing mark.
His face turned pale.
“You heard it too?”
Luna looked at him sharply.
“You know what this is.”
Kael didn't answer.
Suddenly, a howl echoed outside.
Then another.
Then dozens.
Kael's head snapped toward the window.
“Rogues.”
A loud alarm sounded throughout the pack.
Mia rushed to the window.
“They're attacking!”
Kael immediately shifted into his Alpha command voice.
“Stay here. Both of you.”
Luna stood.
“No.”
Kael looked at her.
“You're not ready.”
“I may have been rejected by you, but I'm still a member of this pack.”
Kael's eyes darkened.
“Luna, you don't understand what's coming.”
Another howl shook the night.
And somewhere beyond the trees, a pair of silver eyes watched the chaos.
A deep voice whispered,
“She has awakened. Now they will come for her.”
Luna felt the silver mark burn again.
And this time, she knew one thing for certain.
The attack wasn't random.
They were coming for her.
To be continued…
