The Devil Likes Red Ch. 3

Avalon I sat across from the witch, Davidra. She was many centuries old and had the gift of sight. We were lucky that Davidra called the dark forest her home and had decided to reside here in the castle. She may be centuries old but she still retained a youthful countenance. Her shoulder-length blond hair caressed the edges of her face. Slanted eyes, held twin flames of sapphire blue that twinkled with knowledge only known to her. And her blood-red lips were full and tilted upward into a smug smirk. “What do you know about the other ancient beings?” I asked, playing with a knife, flipping it over and over and over again. “I think what you really want to know dear, is why your ancient being seems to be losing it.” Her sultry voice was mocking but held true humor. I stiffened and stabbed the knife into the wooden table that stood between us. “No, I came here to ask about the other ancient beings and what their plans are.” My voice was low, menancing. She tsked. “What will you give me in return?” Always a price with this witch. I gazed steadily at her. “What do you want?” Her smile grew wider at my question. “I want my usual payment-” “Done.” Her eyes flashed. “I was not done yet, Red.” I narrowed my eyes. To this territory, that my family had protected for generations, I was known as Red. I came from a long line of werewolves that were blood thirsty in nature. Mine was extra…blood-thirsty. Hence the name Red. “I also want Orion…in my bed.” I growled. She had always had a thing for Orion. My brother. “That is not for me to decide,” I gritted. She only c****d her head to the side. “I think it is, dear. You are the queen are you not?” My body trembled with barely supressed rage at her audacious behavior and request. Then she laughed, the sound like tinkling bells. “Relax, I know that if I were to force that man into my bed, it wouldn’t nearly be as fun. Instead, I want you to allow me to share information you’re dying to know.” I absolutely hated the games this woman played. It reminded me as to why I never seek her out unless I absolutely have to. “Fine, deal. Now tell me first about the ancient beings.” Placing her hands on the wooden table, she closed her eyes. Her lips began to move subtly…and then stopped. The room was absolutely silent. Then her eyes shot open and they were pure white, no blue to be seen. When she spoke, her voice was that of many. Not just her own. “The ancient beings you seek are as one known as Chaos. Individually, they are Greed, Lust, Pride, Gluttony, Envy, Sloth, and Wrath.” The seven deadly sins…. “Death and Creation rule them.” That didn’t make sense. “There must be a balance in this world and Death and Creation keep it. Creation locked them all away disrupting that balance.” She paused. Was there more? Davidra blinked and her eyes were normal once more and I growled in frustration. “Is there nothing else to tell us?” I demanded. She shrugged, seeming undisturbed. “You already have the information you need. The question is, will he give it to you?” I frowned. “What do you mean?” Davidra smiled darkly. “The ancient being who is bound to you in more ways than one.” She was being so cryptic and I wanted to scream at her to just spit it out already. My wolf was pacing just beneath my skin and I attempted to reign her in. “Yes, I made a deal with him and he has sworn his allegiance to me. Are you telling me he’s been witholding vital information that could help us?” Davidra didn’t deign to answer me. “What about the information that I’m dying to know? Tell me.” Standing in one graceful movement, she pinned me with a serious look. That was something I had never seen from her. “You want to know why he pushes you away. Why he also craves every single part of you. It’s simple. You are his mate.” My blood ran cold. My breathing stuttered. And I sat there, unable to move, unable to breath, as Davidra quietly took her leave. Mate….Eeros was my mate. The burning question that information left me with was why hadn’t I known? And why hadn’t he told me?
