CADY
Days blurred into packing, paperwork, and a long, snowy train ride to New York. When I finally stepped into Theon's Villa, the air smelled of pine, woodsmoke, and something ancient and powerful.
Old money.
Christmas lights still twinkled along the grand halls, even as the season edged toward Spring. My mother met me with open arms, her face glowing with a radiant smile I had not seen in years.
“Are you sure you didn't come back with your stepbrother?”
My eyes blinked tight. “What do you mean mom?” Was this her new way of trying to make us siblings? I scoffed, digging fingers into my hair and looking off.
But then the massive doors at the end of the hall swung open. She turned, a swift squirm. “He's here!”
“Who?” I snapped when I looked and my heart ceased.
What the hell!
I rubbed my eyes, face twisted. I gawked between her and him. Was I dreaming?
His steps were confident, his face stern.
One question lingered. Was this coincidental or planned? As there's nothing the elites couldn't plan.
“f**k. I'm f****d up.” I gnashed my teeth.
“Do you know him?” My mom asked and I shot her a dagger look.
“Didn't you know the college he's attending?”
She was mute.
He was here. “Damon?” Mom called.
“Damon?” I lip synced, confused. He bears Blake in school.
My eyes glided midway down, too nervous first of all to shoot straight at the face. He was even more overwhelming in person than any rumor or distant memory had prepared me for. Towering height.
I looked up, forcing myself to take in all bodily details to confirm.
Shoulders broad enough to block the light. Black spiky hair still damp, clinging to his forehead in dark, messy strands. Shirtless, skin gleaming faintly with a sheen of sweat or water, every muscle etched with brutal, lethal flex.
“Cady, meet your new stepbrother. Let me leave you two to do the intro.” Mom had the audacity to smile upon seeing my reaction. She patted me and walked briskly off with a nod at Damon.
The space suddenly felt so dead cold. I turned with a frown, almost walking off when a firm hand grabbed my wrist.
“Where do you think you're going?” A cold, brute voice crashed down my ears.
He leaned to my height and my eyes were locked on him. I expected an emotionless, dead stare but instead I saw deep lust with a witty smile.
My body quaked. My n*****s hardened painfully against the thin fabric of my dress. I didn't look down to see it but I felt it. A rush of wetness flooded between my thighs so sudden and intense I had to press my legs together to keep from trembling visibly.
I'd never been this close to him on a one-on-one basis. I hated myself feeling this enemy-turn-on effect. I'd heard of it countless times, being turned on by the person you hate the most, by his charm coupled with enmity and lust but I never believed such a theory would work on me. Especially not with the man who took the love of my life away from me.
My breath caught in my throat as I stood here, unable to move.
He didn't rush, he was giving me time to feel every inch of the distance closing between us. His eyes rendered a cold, black stare, lips smeared in a smirk.
When he stopped, he was close enough that I could feel the heat radiating off his body. Close enough to fully smell his cologne. His eyes dragged over me from head to toe, lingering shamelessly on the swell of my breasts, the curve of my hips, the way the dress clung to my thighs.
I did have a second thought over what this could mean. Did he likewise have another intention towards me? Was one question I asked myself.
Then he smirked, a slow, sinister and utterly devastating one. I was placed in the darkness of suspense.
"So this is the little scholarship reject, my father decided to drag into my family." His voice was low, rough velvet edged with mockery. "The fragile stepsister who thinks she can survive in a villa full of proud elites." He chuckled.
I stepped back, edging my brows. He took a step closer. “You couldn't survive at the Academy, what makes you think you can survive here?” His tone was mixed. Pride and something else. Something I couldn't quite decipher.
My eyes were still rolling, trying to confirm whom it had just captured. “Blake?” I mentioned. Confusion struck fatally. But his gaze was steady, no reaction. My heart thumbed with extreme shock.
Something felt off.
I forced my chin up, refusing to cower even as my pulse thundered in my ears and my core ached with humiliating need.
"And you are the spoiled heir who believes everyone should drop to their knees just because he has a crown waiting." I lashed out, still hurt from his snatching my boyfriend.
His smirk deepened into something dangerous. He stepped even closer, so close, until the tips of my breasts nearly brushed his bare chest. His heat enveloped me like a blanket I could not escape. He leaned in slowly, lips hovering near my ear, breath warm against my skin.
“Will you die when I bring Aiden in here?”
A sudden heat climbed up my chest and I bounced back immediately. What did I just hear?
My chest heaved wildly.
It was me trying to grab things, his reasons for all of this.
"You are already trembling," he murmured, voice so low it vibrated through me. "And I have not even laid a finger on you yet. Tell me, little stepsister... Does the thought of me pinning you down make you this wet? Or is it just the jealousy of bringing your beloved boyfriend to be mine?"
“Urgh?” A surprising gasp pulled through my lips. “Why's he saying that? Does he feel the same?” I looked at his eyes, hate was still there yet his voice brewed with desire.
My breath hitched audibly. I hated him for noticing. Hated myself more for how true it was.
He inhaled deeply, deliberately, nostrils flaring as he sensed my arousal. "Mmm. Delicious. You smell like you are already dripping for me."
At some point, I wondered whether he was mocking me.
He pulled back just enough to meet my eyes again, a golden gaze burning with dark amusement. One finger traced a feather-light path down the side of my neck, over my collarbone, stopping just above the swell of my breast. The touch was barely there, yet it set my skin on fire.
"I am going to enjoy breaking you," he finally whispered. "For daring to fight me because of my man." His face dropped with a slight sorrow and I wondered about his girlfriend. A billionaire heir like him ought to have one.
“What of your…..your girlfriend?” At once, his eyes flashed a quick, extreme look of shock. The words had slipped off my mouth before I got to think twice.
“Why? Does a girlfriend matter when it’s a boy I love?”
My knees threatened to give out.
Billionaire families need women, wives for their sons. I didn't know his real status before but now I know, it was sheer curiosity asking of his girlfriend.
“Who will let you marry that bastard? You have no future with him!” I lashed out, mocking.
“f**k you!” He pushed my forehead with a finger. “I don't give a f**k about any girl. I love who I love. Anyone got a problem with that, it’s on them…….”
My blood went cold.
I was going to grab his power-hold so hard. His c**k. Twist him to pains and end him sprawling on the floor. I won't care who later beats the other.
He turned and walked away without another glance, leaving me standing there, breathless, soaked, furious, and already hopelessly caught in his game.
The war between us had begun. Since Aiden decided to cheat on me with him, maybe I could just strike a wall between them.
Snatching him from my ex may be the sweetest and weirdest revenge ever. But he's gay.
“Well, who gives up loses. I'm not!” I slapped my chest miserably hard with a vow.
