Chapter 4: The Blood Moon’s Pull The town of Ashbourne came into view as Kael and Elara emerged from the dense forest. The faint glow of streetlights lined the cobblestone streets, and the comforting hum of life in the town seemed worlds away from the horrors that had chased them. But Elara knew better now—there was no safety, not really. Kael slowed his pace, scanning their surroundings with a hunter’s precision. “We need to lay low, ” he said, his voice low. “Fenrir’s pack isn’t far, and Garrick won’t give up that easily. ” Elara nodded, though her mindinnhe rummaged ago, she had been living a normal—albeit lonely—life. Now, she was running from wolves, hunters, and a past she didn’t fully understand. “Where do we go?” she asked, her voice trembling. Kael gestured toward the far edge of hern. “I know a place. Kael shot her a look. “It’s better than being out in the open. Come on. ” He pushed the door open, the hinges creaking loudly in protest. Inside, the cabin was sparse but functional. A dusty couch sat against one wall, and a small tawith mismatched chairs occupied the centre of the room. Kael motioned for Elara to sit while he rummagethe d through a nearby cabinet. “We’ll centre for a few hours. Then, we need to keep moving. ” Elara collapsed onto the couch, her body aching from the night’s events. That’s why she hid you here, in Ashbourne. But the map you found—it’s a beacon. It’s drawn Fenrir’s attention, and now he won’t stop until he gets what he wants. ” She glanced at the crumpled map in her hands, the glowing symbols faint but unmistakable. “What is this map?” Kael leaned forward, his voice dropping to a whisper. “It leads to an artefact called the Lunar Stone. It’s said to amplify the power of whoever possesses it. If Fenrir gets his hands on it, he’ll be unstoppable. ” Elara’s heart sank. “And you think I can stop him?” Kael hesitated, his gaze flickering with doubt. “I think you’re thdefene who can. ” Before she could respond, a loud crash shattered the quiet. The door burst open, and three figures stormed atside, their eyes glowing with the unmistakable light of wolves. Kael was on his feet in an instant, placing himself between Elara and the intruders. “Well, well, ” one of them sneered, his voice dripping with malice. “Looks like we found Fenrir’s prize. ” Elara’s blood ran cold as the wolves advaned, their snapping ating with terrifying ease. Kael snarled, his body tense. “Leave now, or I’ll make you regret it. ” The leader of the group laughed, his fangs glinting in the dim light. “Brave words for a lone wolf. You’re outnumb. ” Kael’s lip curled in a dangerous smirk. “I’vewith faced worse. ” The wolves lunged, and chaos erupted. Kael moved like a predator, his strikes precise and deadly. Elara scrambled to her feet, her heart pounding as she searched for anything she could use to defend herself. One of the wolves broke away from Kael, its glowing eyes locking onto her. It growled, crouching low as it prepared to pounce. Panic surged through her, but something deeper stirred within her—a fierce, unrelenting energy that she couldn’t explain. The air around her seemed to hum, and her vision sharpened as the wolf lunged. Instinct took over. Elara raised her hands, and a pulse of energy exploded outward, throwing the wolf across the room. It hit the wall with a sickening thud and didn’t get up. The remaining wolves froze, their eyes wide with shock. Even Kael paused, his gaze snapping to her. “What the hell was that?” she whispered, her hands trembling. Kael didn’t answer. The surviving wolves exchanged a glance before retreating, dragging their unconscious companion with them. As the door slammed shut behind them, silence fell over the cabin. Elara turned to Kael, her chest heaving. “What just happened to me?” Kael’s expression was a mix of awe and apprehension. “You’re starting to awaken, ” he said. “And that’s only the beginning. ” ---
