Chapter 21 I was at loss at what to do. I rolled a number and put an album on the turntable, then turned it off, I couldn’t think of any kind of music that would fit my mood, and the joint was just making me even more paranoid. What the f**k was going on? Where could she be? Who could I call? It was then I realised I knew very little about her, apart from the fact that her parents and grandparents were all dead. I didn’t even know her surname. Shirley cautiously appeared from under the settee and curled around my feet. I bent down and ruffled her fur. She collapsed on her back in total submission, her purr growing in intensity as I rubbed her stomach. She had obviously accepted my apology. I fed her and sat down, re-lit the joint then got back up again, stood in front of the window
