Mera stared at him as he drove through the streets till they arrived at the gate which she recognized easily. She sighed almost inaudibly as she remembered how she had run through it without thinking about being caught.
Justin stared hard at her before finally unlocking the door. With his hands on the handle, trying to open it, Mera immediately pulled him into her bosom. Justin's eyes went wide as saucers. Before he could react, he heard a loud bang on his car and the whole air was filled with whole. Dark thick smoke.
Mera's eyes were going round and round until she was sure nothing would follow then she released him from her grasp. Justin immediately ran round to check his car.
"What the f**k??" He screamed when he saw his car bonnet.
"I'm sorry. I'll get it fixed." She promised
Justin didn't know what to say. He couldn't exactly blame it on her. If anything, she saved his life.
Looking hard and long at his car, he left to type in the password of his gate and walked in, leaving Mera and the injured vehicle outside. That was his favorite car anyway.
Mera sighed as she watched the gate close and lock. She picked the car and went high into the sky, over the gate and then landed in the garage where she carefully dropped the already broken car. She waved her hands around it and it fixed back to being new.
Justin was in his room, sulking that he didn't know what happened at all. While he was still sat, he felt a shiver and turned instantly to see Mera hovering over his bed.
"Shhhh." She shushed before he could scream.
"I've fixed your cat bu-" she stopped talking as she started hearing distant voices.
"Someone's in the house." She said with such alertness that it looked cute to Justin.
"It's just dad. Don't sweat." He shrugged. Mera calmly listened to the entire call and she felt extremely uncomfortable. She looked at Justin and she could see he wasn't who he thought he was. She felt a sense of home with him and she didn't know why.
"Justin, can you tell me about your father?" She asked pryingly.
"Umm.. he's a Doctor. His name's Jeremy. He's a single father. What else?"
"Who's your mother?" She asked
"I don't know. Dad said she died right after birth so I don't really know her."
"C can I see her picture?" She stammered
"Actually, now that you mentioned it, I haven't seen even a picture of her or any other woman. Not even a sign of there ever being a wedding." He said.
"Do you remember most of your childhood?" She asked
"Ummm.. yeah. I do remember being sick a lot. So I was mostly in the hospital then I thought I died. Apparently, I was in coma and I woke up after 5 years and boom. I'm 16. So I've been studying medicine." He explained.
Mera sighed.
"How.. how did your father get his hospital standing so tall?"
"Ohh.. umm. There was a time we faced bankruptcy. He.. he actually met with a few friends. They built and established the hospital and gave it to him on a condition that he uhh.. helps in treating some special kinda kids." He said.
"Special huh? They must be really special." Mera muttered.
Justin shrugged.
"Why so interested?" He asked.
"Justin, something's happening. You saw what happened outside right?"
"Yeah."
"Someone's after my life. I've to leave else, you'd be in danger!"
"No.. we can take it to the police. They can handle it." Justin said. He didn't want her out alone again. God knows what she'd do this time.
"Justin, I can handle myself okay? Let me go. Don't worry, I won't try to kill myself and neither will anyone." She said with a chilling smile. Even Justin was scared to his bones.
Just then, the door bursted open and Dr. Jeremy was seen with a grim look on his face but the moment Mera's gaze hit him, he also felt afraid and shivered from fear.
Mera's look immediately became the sober and unidentifiable gaze which she always held.
Jeremy shook his head to remove the terrifying gaze from his memory but each time he tried, it became more vivid.
?Dr. Fhit's apartment?
"Sir, the security camera has been breached!" Alli's calm voice came through the earpiece. Fhit knot his brows together. That had never happened.
"Tell everyone to be alert and watch out for any strange thing!" He ordered still frowning.
Not even 2 seconds after his order and the lights went off. Everything powered by electricity went off. That was weird. His power source could never run out so why now?
He definitely knew something was up. Whatever it was, he didn't know.
Fhit picked up his phone and dialed a hidden number.
"Hello?"
"The girl, are you familiar with her powers?"
"Powers? Why?"
"I think.. I mean I'm suspecting that she's here and messing with my house."
"And why would she do that?"
"I don't know Jay, I should be asking you. Have you blabbed anything?"
"Oh come on Fhit, how could I of all people blab anything and to an unknown specie? My whole life is at stake here. I couldn't have in fact I still rem-"
"Re what Jay? What do you remember, perhaps?"
*Beep*
"Jay? Jay - what?" He stopped as he saw his network bar had disappeared. Even his network had been tampered with. His back up lights had given the room a low but warm glow. Everywhere was a deep yellow which was quite depressing, matching the feeling of the moment. Everyone was afraid.
After 10 minutes of being shut out from the outside world, the lights came on again. The network was restored, the lockdown mode was reversed and the security cameras glitched back to life.
Alli first checked every room in the apartment, including the secret rooms and the prisoners' room. The house looked like a 1 storey building from the outside but it had 5 floors beneath the ground. Each floor had its own purpose.
The first was his lab.
The second was his meeting room.
The third was his basement and equipment room.
The fourth was his prison.
The fifth was the floor where he kept powerful prisoners who he tortured till death and left their body to decay. Fhit was the cruelest of all doctors but he had the people who could always crush him. Which was why he had a sixth basement floor which no one knew. That was where he was training his own rebel squad. Fhit knew who he wanted to be and strived to be that.
Alli didn't notice anything different about the rooms.
"Alli, any strange thing?"
"None noticed sir." She said.
"Hmm. Checked all floors?" He asked through the small mic on his chin.
"Affirmative sir. All clear."
"Hmm. That's alright." Fhit said.
While Alli was still busy checking and rechecking, a hot blondie strolled over to her side and leaned on her desk.
"Hey!" Alli frowned.
"If you want a tip, check on floor 3" she said in a rude manner and walked away but not before flipping her hair.
Alli harrumphed. Who was she anyway? Was she like Fhit's nth mistress?
Alli giggled at her own joke.
"What's so funny Allison?" Zake asked with a half smile.
"Nothing Zakey!" She smiled in return.
Zake smiled and walked away with ears red. Zakey was such a sweet nickname. Then he remembered that Allison was sweet with everyone and his smile disappeared..
Alli tapped the cameras on the 3rd floor. Why would the nth mistress of Fhit want her to check on those scary tools?' she thought. She searched in all the 12 rooms and didn't really see anything at all. Except the scattered desk. One thing everyone knew about their boss was his love for arranged desk. Her eyes widened in horror. His drawers were open and files were scattered all around. Everyone's files were mixed up and she was still wondering why.
"Sir, I found something." She whispered.
"What?" Fhit whispered back to her.
"The files.." she paused
"Files? What files?"
"On floor 3. The files have been tampered with. I'm not sure if anything is missing because the whole shelf and desk and drawers are empty and they've all been scattered on the desk."
"But, why?"
"That, I don't know sir."
"Tell Zake, Reya, Weichu, Jin, and you yourself should meet me at the 3rd floor ASAP!"
"Who the hell is Reya?" Alli muttered to herself.
"That'd be me!" The blonde mistress said.
"Oh.. well, Sir Fhit said to meet him at the-"
"3rd floor. Got it." She said and Alli couldn't even see her again.
Alli dialed Weichu and Jin on her pinger to pass the message. Then she especially went to Zake's office to call him. She liked Zake very much.
"Hey Zakey.." she smiled widely.
"Lilli! What's up?" He smiled in return.
"A whole lot. Zake, look.. something's happening. Something strange." She whispered.
"What's that?" Zake asked. Zake wasnät a normal human. He was a half mermaid. But that was his little secret.
"I think we can finally be free. Someone.. a greater force has arrived and I feel they will stop at nothing to pull us down. We can either join this force or be pulled down. Zakey, it's a good force. A very good force." She whispered. Alli always had that gift of perceiving things. She could always tell how things would turn out. But, Fhit was using her and she didn't like it.
"Lilli, let's go meet the others. Before they suspect." Zake said. He would definitely follow Allison to rebel against Fhit if it would make her love him back.
In the elevator, Zake noticed how Allison kept shaking.
"He's not that scary you know?" He whispered in her ears, causing her to blush.
"Not that Zakey, he has those equipments that can tell when I've perceived something." She explained.
Zake was dumbfounded. No wonder she was never able to escape. He could use his powers but it might also sense his own.
"Lilli, I can help but promise to shut up about it?" He asked.
Allison nodded but just then, the elevator shook and stopped halfway. The lights again, went off. Alison hugged Zake's arms tightly.
"Lilli, wait." He whispered.
"No Zakey, someone's in here with us." She sobbed quietly.
"What?"
"Someone's here, it's a very powerful someone." She almost cried.
"Show yourself!" Zake ordered and then a little light shone from his palms.
A deep chuckle was heard.
"Is that all you could do?" A deep voice was heard.
They couldn't tell if it was a he or a she. At this point, even Allison's perceiving power was useless. Whoever was there was suppressing her powers. She just knew that this person could either be their savior or their doom.
"What do you want?" Zake asked. He wasn't the least afraid because he knew who he was.. or rather, what he was.
"What I want? I never thought about that! Maybe I'd think about it and tell you when next we meet. But for now, it's what you want. You want to leave these walls isn't it? I can help you with that. But, you will in return help me pull them down!" The voice said. Zake's light was getting brighter and he felt weaker by the moment. He hadn't been trained to use his palm light and so he couldn't channel the right amount of energy.
"Careful darling. You must be too eager to see my face no? You're channeling too much energy to that light and very soon you'd pass out. Your palm light is very important." She said.
"You're a girl?" Zake asked shocked.
"Yeah duh. Allison Parker. 20 years of age. You're supposed to be doing your medical training here but you've been puppeted! How snarky. You have the gift to perceive. Very beautiful. Perhaps you could teach me how to use mine? No?" She waited for a response and when she didn't get any, she smirked.
"I'll leave you two. Allison dear, if you really wanna leave then I'll drop my details. Once you get back to your desk, switch on your computer. The details are quite coded but with your gift, I'm sure you'd pass it quickly. Don't worry, I'll leave the suppressant on till you're back in the elevator so don't be scared of Feet's machine." She said and boom, the lights went on.
No one was there. The elevator landed on the third floor and they stepped out, sweating nervously.
