Chapter 3-2

“If we lose, am I expected to end my own life?” Before she could answer, I silenced her by holding up a finger to my lips for I heard footsteps getting closer to the door. Tanikka pulled me up and hid me behind a hidden doorway that was covered by a curtain. I found myself in a storage closet of shelves lined with old books and files. I was hoping what I heard was the sound of Ronin's steps, but I didn't know his stride yet. It just hit me that I knew everyone's pace back home. A waft of sadness washed over me but vanished when the door was snatched open. “Ronin.” I was glad to see him. “Come out, it's safe.” He stepped back, giving me room to exit. “Thanks,” I said, not sure what else to say at his apparent darkened mood. I wondered if that was normal for him after a visit with Monlow.
