CHAPTER FIVE

"A marriage contract, I don't understand what you're trying to do".

"Okay miss Paige I will break it down for you in a way that you will understand it. You see my mother Mrs Patricia Anderson has asked me to get married or I loose my share in the family's property. But it's not like I need the properties anyways. It's just a promise that I made to my dad before his death. He had make me promise him that although I may have my own money, I should also take part in the share of his properties. So you see. In conclusion, what I'm trying to say is that I need a wife and you are the very best person for that position cause you know why, because you Samantha Paige you are in need of money to pay your father's hospital bill so I brought up this contract in a way that it will Favour the both of us.

So I just need you to accept to be my wife for only a year. And within the course of our fake marriage, we would only have to pretend to be married in front of others but when we are alone we are just a boss and his secretary". James explained.

"Do you really think that I'm actually stupid to adhere to your request like what the hell do you take me for. Just so you know Mr Anderson, I don't need your money to take care of my dad, I can pay his bills without your help".

"Ofcourse I know you can take care of your dad and that's what you have been doing and he's doing quite alright now right Mrs Paige". James said sarcastically.

"Do not make a joke out of my father's illness. I have told you, I don't need your f*****g money Mr". Samantha said really pained that James was making jokes out of her father's condition. You can insult her, you can do anything you like to her but one thing Samantha Paige hates is when someone tries to make fun of her family. She could kill for them.

"Just a phone call Miss Paige and your very own lovely father would be inside the theatre responding to treatment and within some few hours he'll be okay and back to normal. So make your choice now miss Samantha". he said and sat down waiting for Samantha's reply but turned around and left his office. On her way out she saw Cherry and hugged her immediately.

"Hey, hey what's the problem, what happened". Cherry her but didn't get any reply from Samantha rather she ran into her office. Seeing that Samantha was crying this badly, it really touched Cherry. She decided to take the bull by the horn. She barged into James' office with full speed.

"What the hell did you do or say to Samantha that would make her cry so badly".

"Wow, that's nice. The mother cat comes to fight for her kitten. Anyways, I actually wasn't expecting her to cry. Okay I'll just tell you anyways. I found out that her father was in a very critical condition and needs immediate attention so I decided to provide a little help to her".

"And what sought of help is that".

James gave her the documents and she was shocked when she saw it.

"What the bloody hell, a marriage contract. Why would you want Sam to get married to you and you actually expect her to accept you with all this your chitty character.

Well miss k****e, I provided the best possible solution for your friend. Her father's life is now in her hands. So since we're done talking, can you get out of my office" he ordered her.

"Is that an order or what".

"As your boss, it's an order".

"(Laughs) Do you really think I'm so soft hearted like Sam, I get it that this company belongs to your family but hey Mr, don't you dare think that you can order me around. Do have a nice day". She said and left making James to be as shocked as ever cause no one has ever spoken to him like that.

Cherry went into Samantha's office and met her still crying, so she decided to let her be. Later she came back again and samantha was quite. Cherry offered her water and they both began to talk.

"Sam I know the way James brought up the marriage contract issue wasn't nice but dear you really need to save your father's life. I read the contents of the contract and it was stated that he won't come close to you. It's just only for you to pretend to be his wife for a year".

"I know Cherry but staying with James Anderson for a whole year is just as much as commiting suicide".

"Do you want to be termed selfish. A girl who had the chance to save her father's life but because of her selfishness left the old man to die horribly. I can't make a decision for you Sam, the best I can do is to give an advice just as a friend would so it's upto you to make the right decision". Cherry told her and left. Samantha was left alone to think about what Cherry had just told her. On one side, she wants to really save her dad's life but on the other side she doesn't want to get married to James Anderson. She checked her account balance and it wasn't even upto half of the required amount that the doctor demanded for the surgery. Another idea popped into her head, she wanted to go look for a loan shark and request for a loan from them but immediately deleted the thoughts because it was the same loan shark issue that put her father in that condition.

After much thoughts, she stood up and left for the hospital. She entered the room where her dad was and he was still unconscious. She sat beside him and began talking.

"Hey dad, it's me Sam. I came to check up on you and know how you're doing". she said amidst tears.

"Dad I really need your advice right now. I'm really stuck and I don't know what to do. Remember my rude and annoying boss I told you about, well he has decided to pay all your bills only on the condition that I get married to him. Dad, I really want to save you trust me, I really do but it's James Anderson. That's why I came to you. You know I remembered (chuckles) whenever I had troubles, you always have a solution for me so dad I really need you now (sniffs)".

She stayed at the hospital till it was evening so she decided to leave.

"Dad, I've made up my mind and whatever choice I make please don't get mad at me. It was a really hard decision to make. She looked at her dad lying on the hospital bed, she couldn't stop herself from crying so she ran out of the hospital in tears about to make the decision that will either make or mar her life.
