Everything went dark for a second, and then my vision snapped back. I blinked rapidly, disoriented. My gaze locked onto those piercing blue eyes, confusion swirling in my mind. What had he just injected me with? Panic surged through me as I reached out for Burnadette—silence. No response. My wolf never would have chosen this moment, a life-or-death situation, to block me out.

A jolt of terror shot through me, and my heart slammed against my ribs.
