Stephen’s POV
I could not believe what I saw in that room. It was the face that I have dreamed of in countless nightmares, the face of whom I used to fall for, and the face that I will never forget.
It was my ex-girlfriend, Elena, which I thought was already dead..
I felt dizzy and almost fell down, but luckily Antonio got me. I grabbed his arm desperately and shook them using my last strength.
‘How could she be here! What’s going on Antonio!? Isn’t she...’
‘Died. Yes I know that, from the car accident. I’ve seen her body with my own eyes. That is true Stephen, calm down. You’d better have a look at her face carefully.’ Said Antonio.
The face was now the last thing I wanted to loot at, but still, I took a deep breath and stare at it. This time, I see that she has a small mole on the left side of her nose. The face looks just like my Elena, but it isn't hers.
This was a totally different girl. Thank goodness it isn’t her, or I don’t know if I wish it was her. I have so many mixed feelings right now. I feel out of strength, and fell to the ground with relief.
‘Think of the bright side Stephen, maybe this is your second chance. Remember what Elena has done to you? Now you would have a chance to do anything you wish to do to this girl.’ Said Antonio.
Of course I remember what Elena has done to me. how I wish I could forget about it. Elena is the daughter of our chauffeur, so we grew up together, we've been together since we were teenagers. s*x with Elena was always so wild and passionate, this woman always knew how to please me, her body has been my temple, and she is willing to fulfill all my needs.
I proposed to her after college, but my parents didn't approve of the marriage at first, they thought that Elena was with me only for my money. But I didn't care, we were each other's first love, and after five years together, I trusted her completely. I meant what's the worst? If she was really with me because of my money, then I would give her all of my possessions, and I just want the only woman I love to be happy.
I gave her everything I could do, my money, my love, even my life if she wants. I moved out of my family's mansion and rented an apartment downtown to live with Elena so I wouldn't be bothered by my parents. For the first year of our marriage, I thought I was the happiest man in the world. Though I was often busy with work, she would prepare a meal and greet me at the door every time I came home. We would lie on the couch together, and she would listen to me in the crook of my arm as I told her about the funny things that had happened in the past few days. Of course, it always ended up with s*x. We were always so in sync in bed, and touching her soft body would take my mind off of everything that had been bothering me during the day.
A year later, when she informed me of her pregnancy, I couldn't have been happier. Even my parents let go of their feelings for her and started treating her like their own daughter. They even promised to give her 100,000 dollars as a reward after she gives birth. I also put in more hard work, hoping to provide a better life for her and my future baby. It would have been great if we could have stayed happy like that, but things took a turn for the worse and the night I didn't want to remember came.
I had to work late again that night and I called to check on Elena like I always do.
'Babe, I'm sorry I have to work late again tonight.'
'Don't worry honey, I'm used to it. Besides, I have company tonight.'
'Oh? Who is it.'
'It's Linda who I met yesterday when I had my hair done, it turns out that she lives just a few blocks from our house. She called me today and said there was a nice Italian restaurant nearby and we decided to try it.'
'Oh, that's nice, remember not to drink, my soon mother-to-be.'
'Of course I know, silly. I'm going out now, love you.'
I hung up the phone not realizing that this would be our last call.
Hours later, when the police informed me that Elena's crashed car and her body had been found on the highway, I couldn't believe what I heard. They must have made a mistake, Elena was just going to a restaurant near her home for dinner, how could she be on the freeway? But when I felt the scene of the crash, what caught my eye was the red sports car I had given her for her birthday.
'Please, let me see her, I'm her husband.'
I fought my way through the crowd to get near the car, hoping to see Elena with her last breath, but when I saw her charred body in the driver's seat, my legs gave out and I fell to my knees.
'I'm sorry sir, it all happened so fast due to the explosion that occurred when the vehicle hit too hard, causing a fire in the cockpit.'
But I couldn't listen to the police at all, I desperately crawled to the side of the car and looked into the cockpit, how I wished that the body sitting in the cab wasn't my Elena.
My Elena was burned so badly that she was almost unrecognizable, but I recognized the red dress she was wearing, the one she had worn when I kissed her goodbye that morning.
I was trembling, unable to make any sound. I couldn't understand why the person who had been so nice on the phone just moments ago was a charred corpse before me a few hours later. Why she showed up on the freeway when she was supposed to be eating near our home. That's when I noticed the other body on the passenger side. Being farther away from the fire, his body wasn't burned, but strangely enough, he wasn't any Linda, but Jone, my best friend.
