It was worse than anything we imagined.
The forest hadn't just lost its magic - it had been hollowed out, stripped to silence and ash. Trees - once tall and magnificent - were withered and brittle, even the color was gone. Flowers, grass, gray and drooping. The streams running through, dry, cracked. But the worst was everything that was trapped. Witches, wolves, even a few humans. Bears, deer, squirrels, anything that lived within the attack site was trapped in stone. The few survivors we had were at the local hospital seeking treatment. It didn't look good.
"Gods..." Mom covered her mouth with her hand, the other resting over her stomach.
Xander stared wide-eyed while Levi crouched down, feeling the ground. "It's brittle, like slate."
